The dentist's chair, about to get my three remaining wisdom teeth removed. I've gotten my injections and am just waiting for the fun to begin. This is not the best way to start a three day weekend.

You should've asked them to fully sedate you.

Being hopped up on enough pain killers to take a steel toed kick to the face sounds like a pretty good way to start the weekend.

One was impacted, so he had to get the drill out. Right now, I'm home with the taste of blood and burnt tooth in my mouth. Only one of the teeth hurt coming out, but my dentist knows his business and made quick work of it. Once the procedure started it only took about ten minutes to get all three out. I've got some Vicodin if I need it, but I hate Hydrocodone, so I'll probably stick to 500MG Acetaminophen.

As to being knocked out, why bother? A quick Benzocaine wipe and you don't even feel the needle going on, after that, there really isn't that much to feel.

This. Not that I have much to say about it really. I've only had 2 taken out and both came out within 30 seconds of the dentist working at them.

I had to have all four of my wisdom teeth cut out when I was 18. They put me to sleep and I woke up sobbing. I remember apologizing profusely to the nurse, saying, "I don't know why I'm crying, I swear!!" She just laughed and said it was sometimes a side effect of the anesthesia.

They typically don't put you under for wisdom teeth removal as it's such a short and simple procedure. Systemic anesthesia is riskier and has more side effects than local anesthesia, so they don't like to use it when they don't have to.

That reminds me, I need to schedule getting my own wisdom teeth taken out...

Well, I had mine out when I was 18, like I said, and back then everyone who had to have their wisdom teeth cut out were put under. Of course... that was 13 years ago, too.

Careful, your ageexperience is showing. Smiley: wink

INORITE?!?

Meh. I'll start lying about worrying about my age when I start feeling it.

Why worry about it at all? I figure I'm too old to start growing up.

I still remember having mine removed. One tooth was impacted and hard to remove and that sound I felt/heard still makes me cringe when he pulled it out.

I was knocked out for mine, and that happened like a year ago. Don't remember how long I was out for though.

No one else finds it strange that Niobia shows up for one post after being gone for forever? Did I miss something... again?

I'd probably kind of enjoy the procedure in a macabre sorta way. When I was a kid in like the 3rd grade or something and needed fillings, I denied the novocaine.

I got put under when I had mine done back in August. The last thing I remember was the doctor putting the needle in my hand, saying "This might hurt a little bit."

Turns out the nurse tried three times to wake me up. When I finally came to, I had gauze in my mouth, icepacks on my cheeks, and I was trying to hold a conversation. Both the nurse and my wife told me to shut up.

Then I got home and passed out on the couch.

The other benefit of just going local is that you don't have to worry about being woozy the whole day. I bought gas and washed my car not a half after sitting in the evil chair of doom. I wouldn't have even been able to drive myself home if I'd had them knock me out.
