I went into Best Buy Friday after work and purchased a 55" LCD TV. My first non-boxy TV larger than 27". Get to pick it up this Thursday. Going to be using it primarily as a gaming hookup, which will include my PS3 for Bluray. Additionally I'm hooking my PC into it to get the most out of all these games I bought before/during the holidays. Anyone else have any cool uses? Any particular movies I should be buying? I'm looking forward to watching Planet Earth on BD.

Help me out here oh dead forum.

Ahh, Thursday comes into it because it has to be delivered to the store and that's when I'm picking it up.

Older movies. Not because they look better (some of those remade on blu-ray seem to have worse quality than the originals on vhs), but because you can often notice small inconsequential things in the background.

My grandmother left some source of water unattended in West Virginia while she went on vacation to Florida. On this vacation, two things happened. In Florida, she spent a lot of time bidding on flat panel TVs. She got tired of bidding on one at a time and losing every time, so she bid on two and won them both. Meanwhile, in West Virginia, 8,000 gallons of water was rushing through her house. She didn't have enough money to pay the water bill because she just bought two TVs. In steps my father. He offered, in exchange for one of the TVs, to pay the water bill. This means I get his old WAY HEUG TV.

I thought this was a relevant enough place to express my excitement.

It is pretty exciting though. I'm extremely hyped up and can't wait to start using it. Especially looking forward to Crysis 2. Also, Witcher 2.

Patton on Blu-Ray is spectacular. They did a wonderful job restoring it and then some.

highly reccommend A. getting a surround sound reciever of some sort with multiple HDMI inputs to act as your device hub, and B. as funds permit, something along the lines of a Logitech Harmony remote to make usage and navigation of your new system much easier. For example, I have the Harmony 900, and it takes all the multiple remote dance and input switching completely out of the equation. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/remotes/universal-remotes/devices/5874

You will also want a decent bluetooth wireless keyboard / mouse so you can sit far enough away from your TV and operate your computer. I like my Dinovo Edge, but there are cheaper alternatives too that work well.

Nature documentaries, especially modern ones shot with high speed and high definition film will suddenly make you feel like crying at how beautiful they are.

Cameron's Avatar.

Really, everything is about to look a hundred times clearer and better. My sister actually doesn't like this, because you can now see all the pores and tiny wrinkles and the littlest facial hair on actors. She thinks it destroys the romance. I think people are beautiful with all their freckles and pores and warts and hairs and wrinkles.

Those things are worth every penny. They not only look totally baller, they're the only universal remotes that actually do it all.

Controlling the PS3 requires the PS3 adaptor. which can be found for $30 on ebay and works quite well on mine.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Logitech-Harmony-Playstation-3-Adapter-/270699212952?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f06ee3098

The Harmony One does almost all of that and can be found online for a fraction of the $400. I didn't pay anywhere close to $400 for my 900 though. And it works with any PC that has an Imon based infrared module. Not sure about others. I could check. Imon modules can be aquired for a 5/ 1/4" bay for a fairly low cost as well.

I also tied mine into my house using Insteon control modules. just the fireplace, fan and the TV room lights so far, but i'll add more modules over time. http://www.smarthome.com/_/INSTEON/_/23b/land.aspx. Not so much that I'm too laszy to get up and hit the light switch or anything, I just like having a single button i can push that dims the lights, turns on the TV to the PS3 and starts my movie.

Realistically, any of the Harmony remotes will do the universal remote job adequatly. Some just look better whilst doing it. The RF based ones are definitly alot more freindly to hiding your components if you have lign of sight issues.

Instead of buying a tv, I opted to get a laptop with an HD LED LCD screen as I don't watch near enough tv to justify spending that much on a tv.

This laptop is awesome.

This isn't true for sufficiently large values of mom.

Or sufficiently small values of Usagi? Ah, you silly theoretical types are all the same.

You need to take into account the simple biomechanics and dimensional logistics. In the same way a human sized ant (barring human aunts) cannot exist because their internal structures would not support the adequate biomass distributions even if all components were scaled equivalently, such aforementioned mom of sufficient size is outside the bounds of human biomechanical limits and thus does not exist.

What I'm trying to say here is "Want some more caek, fatty?"

Something tells me that your mom falls outside of the realm of human physiology
