I've read people actually killing this game. Don't know if they're XI fanbois or not, but the reviews aren't favorable.

The long and short of FFXIV:
Too much time modeling shiny enemy and character models in Zbrush, not enough time developing content for the damn game.

Orly? I'd wager this has a sh*tload more content than XI did at release. Almost every review is based on the beta version, which is sad to say the least. I have my quarrels with the game in it's current condition, some small and some large, but overall I'm enjoying playing.

The only annoying parts for me right now are:

- No auto-target when fighting multiple mobs.
- Curing party members a little too hard right now, mostly to do with the targeting system, again.

The lag around crystals is annoying sometimes, but that should taper off after the regular release, I hope.

I wonder how many reviews for 14 are written by folks who played 11. I'd imagine anyone would consider the content of 14 lacking at beta when compared to the content fueled, out for almost a decade, 11.

Oh, and I'm the pessimist.
"companies have time and resource restraints and thus can't support unlimited in game growth and rely on artificial ceilings to limit players" is just realistic. Can you think of any game that doesn't have ceilings on growth?

Of course not. That's not the point, because it's impossible.

Here's the point: Can you think of another game that limits you in this way? No. You dudes are mislabeling lazy development as "casual-friendly".

Most of the reviews I read and trust are from people who play every game, and have since before FFXI existed. These are the worst reviews I've ever read. Worse than Vanguard.

Don't get me wrong, Japanophiles, I don't necessarily think this will always be a bad game, but right now you are paying to beta test for PS3 release. No way around it. And mark it down, kiddos, when PS3 goes live the fatigue system will go away shortly thereafter. You guys are cute because this is only your second MMO release. =) Prepare to get f*cking jaded.

Well, there's WoW.

You know, if you live in China.

No, but they still limit you in plenty of other ways, so it's really six of one half a dozen of the other. Casual players aren't hitting cap just like they normally wouldn't in any other game, and super hardcore people are still being limited like they normally would in any other game. The actual implementation of the cap is fairly irrelevant.

Do you not think every game developer is similarly lazy? It's like getting bent out of shape at Blizard because you couldn't get lv85(+) and fight Lich King a hundred times a week right at vanilla WoW release.

You're trying to paint us as raving fanboys, but we've been honest about what is and isn't working in game, while you're the one spazing that a soft cap that seriously affects maybe 2% of the game's population is some huge deal breaker.

With the new xp ceiling stuffs, does that mean it's possible to solo more? XI got incredibly annoying to me because you had to have a group to do anything.

Something I loved about WoW is that I could potentially solo my way to the level cap if I wanted to. Sure, it would take a lot of time, but it's possible. There were some quests that I needed help on, but it's possible to wait until they're green to you and go back and solo them. I may not have had the best gear, but I had fun.

I haven't seen anything that required PTing so far in closed/open beta or release version. My brother got close to 30 in closed beta without PTing at all. All the battle leves have a "solo" option, monsters give reasonable exp/difficulty outside of leves, and you can cap physical level via crafting w/o ever leaving town.

As far as I can tell, there doesn't seem to be much encouragement for grouping. It's almost the exact opposite of FFXI right now.

You can group up and fight slightly harder monsters, but for little extra gain. If you fight harder monsters like you did in FFXI, tanks get obliterated.

'Course, that's only from me and my roommates' experience.

To those of you who are playing on Rabanastre: There's a allakhazam linkshell set up already. I can probably give you a pearl if you get in touch with me (as long as you plan to play nice. :3) Character name is "Dead Gye".

I'm stuck on campus right now (and in gridania anyway), so if you want a pearl before friday you could probably get one faster if you ask here or on alla irc at #TheKrakenClub.

I didn't know there was an Allakhazam LS! Luckily, I'm already on Rabanastre! Name is Fantom Roland. You should get me into said LS at some point when we both happen to be online.

You're right, you're not poor, you're just living in a decrepit trailer after having filled for bankruptcy. I can't imagine how he got that impression.

She also did start bragging to BD about how great a job she had now and that it pays well. Filing for bankruptcy doesn't mean you're poor, it means you're in over your head and mismanaged some things.
