In just over a month, I'll be headed off to Hawaii! I'm booking flights and whatnot in the next few days, it's actually happening. I'll be there for 4-5 days, drinking from coconuts, staring at comets in the dead of night, and Hawaii-ing it up something fierce.

It's not going to cost me a thing. Please be jealous.

Did you tell the person who's paying that they'll have to buy you 2 seats as per airline policy?

I don't even know you, and I hate you for this. Please go find the nearest cliff and jump off. And send me the tickets before you do that. At least your death will make me happy.

Would that rant be better in the asylum?

Make sure you get off the beaten path as a tourist and just tour on your own. You can't really get to know Hawaii if you fall for all the tourist traps.

Good advice. Be sure to inspect the inside of the volcanos. Even the active ones. Especially the active ones.

I'll be hanging out at the Keck Observatory for about half the time I'm there. Does that count? Beyond that, I just plan on sightseeing, relaxing, and seeing just how blue an ocean can get.

An old friend from high school who now lives in Hawaii was getting married last year and sent out invites. Unfortunately I couldn't go. But it would have been a perfect excuse to visit Hawaii.

I saw some photos on his facebook account and the place looks great. And he's got tons of photos with gatherings on the beach, surfing, etc. And here I am working 10-12 hours a day, very little free time. I don't know how he does it. Sometimes I think Controls Engineering was a bad choice of a career. It's so time consuming and demanding when entire factories rely on you and you alone...

What?

By Hawaii I'm betting he means Oahu so while Keck would be cool its on Big Island. Big Island is awesome but don't go there it isn't tourist friendly.

Waiks is a **** hole. But as a tourist you will love it, as well it caters to tourists. You are likely staying there.

What are you trying to do out here? Are you going Honolulu? I'm assuming you are as the rest of the islands are either you stay in a tourist trap on the beach or need a car and a guide as it is very hard to find ****. Plus all the signs are words you can't pronounce and will have trouble identifying as the ones that are close will have a similar name.

Anyway since you are likely going Oahu you should:

Go to Sandy Beach. Really beautiful beach, you can see outer islands from the beach and the waves are sweet. Don't go in the water, you will get ****** up and if me or any of my friends were there we would laugh.

Go Hanauma Bay. Awesome snorkeling. Its closed on Tuesday.

Check out north shore. Don't go Matsomoto's for shave ice, the place sucks. There's a better place on the strip, the name escapes me at the moment. Also go to Pipe, Sunset and any other beach up there. They are all awesome. If you are driving along the Kam and happen to notice a house mauka side of the road that has a soda machine stop your car and go to the beach across the street from the soda machine. You'll thank me if you can find it.

Don't bother going west side. While they do have cool **** there it is not worth going. Its far and the locals really hate tourists, more so than the rest of the island.

When you eventually go Kailua, go to Lanikai. The beach is very nice but parking is all street style. If you go to Kailua Beach, when you leave the parking lot go left for a while, the beach gets better. **** at Kailua beach got all bus a couple 2-4 years ago.

Eat the food. Makes sure to try plate lunch, musabi, poke, laulau and ahi. There is more, it is all good.

Locals are friendly but deep down we don't like tourists. So be friendly and nice to everyone and you will be fine.

Not really sure what you are trying to do. Post here. I'll check back in the next day or so.
