I would say something clever, but who knows if he is lurking in the shadows, about to perforate me with shuriken.

I heard this story on the radio today. The version I heard said he was trying to carry them on to his own private plane. And it made a big deal about "why would I try to hijack my own plane!" and how there weren't any separate screening methods for people using private jets. But it did say also that Apple denied it.

Unfortunately, this means you've also sided with the zombies, rather than the robots.

Well, here's a picture of the larger variant of this particular CNC mill in action. Mine is about 2/3rds the size, but essentially the same design. This is just a simple run. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFRmZG1RXfQ

Eventually mine will be capable of things similar to this, though not nearly as fast:

You should build some 5 axis cnc machining centers.

We use these expensive, German, P.O.S. ones at work. They are a pain in the *** if you ever have to change one of the rotary axis.

Wow. And I thought the 10 minute cycles our machines had were bad. That thing looks like it would take an hour to make a model...

5 Axis is one of my goals. I have a .dgn file for a decent rotary table 4th axis that will be my first upgrade after I get this operational. Haven't bought the controller yet, planning a Gecko G540 initially which is only 4 axis, then maybe upgrade later. I'd like to get a tool change capable spindle too, that or build one if I can find some decent ceramic bearings somewhere cheap.

The first things I'll be making will be various radio control helicopter parts and Electric Viola bodies, since apparently almost no one makes electronic violas and my brother thinks they would sell decently.

I also have a source for reasonably priced rock salt slabs. I figure I can mill picture reliefs into them, mount them in a nice wooden frame with a light or a candle behind and sell custom relief milled images. Things like that. I'm building a coolant enclosure now to house the machine, so I should be able to do anything up to aluminum easily enough. got a flood coolant pump set up as well.

I'll be setting up an accessory bracket on the side to mount the probe sensor and the balsa cutting laser. If I can figure out how to get the G540 to control it, I was thinking about picking up one of those makerbot (http://makerbot.com/ ) plastic extrusion heads since i could get one very inexpensively. Also got my 3D laser scanner working too! (http://www.david-laserscanner.com/wiki/user_manual/getting_started)

Actually, to mark the operational status of the machine when I get there, I plan on making 5 decorative commemorative paperweights, keeping 1 and giving the others away in contests. But i'm still a ways out yet.

I'd love to build a small CNC like that. I know a enough about servo controls. But CNC controls are far beyond me right now. I can do a little bit just from the maintenance I've done on the machines where I work, but nothing major. I could build/program a machine to be able to go between points, but all the math involved in the five axis arcing...
