Iphone 3g QuestionFollow

OK! sooooo...I didn't know where else to post this besides the out of topic forum, hoping someone here would have a solution for my problem.

I stupidly bought an iPhone 3g 8gb knowing that I would need to get the phone unlocked to be able to use it on my current carrier, Rogers. The problem is... the phone has apparently been updated to version 4.0.1 and can't be unlocked. Also, I can't restore the phone to factory settings because I don't know which carrier the phone was previously with.

Is it going to be possible to unlock the phone or am I screwed?

Thanks! Hoping someone is knowledgeable with Iphones so I can figure this out.

P.S. If you need any additional information, I'll try to provide it for ya.

You can't go on Craigslist and find someone that can jailbreak the phone?

No problem. Just point it at your 4.01 install file (you can find that at Apple, just save it somewhere you can find it) Download redsn0w .9.5 and get to crackin'. That's the jailbreak. The unlock guide is over here.

You're welcome.

And as I told you in the original post, get it from Apple.

It's people like this guy that make me believe I will be able to sell my old 3G for almost what I paid for it to get the new version later. :D

Fact. Unlocked phones (3g, 3gs) still sell for a decent price.
