The quality of home receptacles is pretty grim. These receptacles are constructed out of low-grade brass with very little care as evidenced in their purchase price of under $1.00. They are very poorly built, have poor grip, lower surface area and tend to build up oxidation "barnacles" on the untreated brass, which hampers connectivity.

What this means to a high-end audio or video system isn’t good. Poor connectivity and loss of surface area from the contacts interacting with airborne pollution spells audible degradation for audio systems and increased visible noise for video systems.

Perhaps an even better question is why do AC receptacles matter? Why do you need to consider the importance of this single connection that provides 100% of the power that your system consumes?

Everything we see and hear in our AV systems starts out as raw AC power. The unrestricted quality of that power has a great deal to do with the performance quality of our systems. Garbage in, garbage out. So it is important for us to build a solid AC foundation from which everything else feeds off.

He makes a good argument. I didn't spend $250 on these Monster cables just to run crap-grade electricity through them.

I don't need these. My electricity is produced by 100% free-range natural unicorns, which I replace every six months. (The unicorns are sold to Radiant Farms at the end of the six-month period.)

Don't forget your 1000 dollar Ethernet patch cord, for those faster than light data transfers.

I especially enjoy the comments.

I couldn't believe a cable could make so much difference, so I connected a cable tester to it and saw that it rendered the 0s and 1s perfectly. I'm even getting some 2s and 3s!!! None of my other ethernet cables have ever done that.

The entire page is full of em. I don't think there is a serious comment on that whole product.

I rather enjoyed this one:

Transmission of music data at rates faster than the speed of light seemed convenient, until I realized I was hearing the music before I actually wanted to play it. Apparently Denon forgot how accustomed most of us are to unidirectional time and the general laws of physics. I tried to get used to this effect but hearing songs play before I even realized I was in the mood for them just really screwed up my preconceptions of choice and free will. I'm still having a major existential hangover.

The funny thing is that I've gotten the best sound quality I've ever heard out of my iPod and a pair of $5 off-brand earbuds from Big Lots.

Ahhhhh expensive cables that improve life by parting you of your cash. When I worked at BB I used to buy expensive cables with my discount, 5% above cost and then sell them on ebay for like 75% of the retail cost. Some of those cables in stores sell for $120 bucks and costs a retailer about $15.

My wife just recently hung her self with the Denon AKDL1 Dedicated Link Cable. She was dead instantly. Very satisfied with the results.
