So WTF is it with every movie I get for Blu-ray FORCEING me to watch commercials, trailors, etc? MAybe its where I am renting them but this is bullcrap. When I rented "9" IT actually forced me to download a commerical and watch it. Now trying to watch Sherlock Homes and its forcing me to watch ALL the trailors and there are like 5 of them. Try to go to main menu, top menu, etc and it tells me action not available.

I can see why so many people download illegal bootlegs. There is no sense in this! MAybe its just where I am watching it on the Ps3 I dunno but its bullcrap.

The skip-to-next-chapter (>>|) button usually does the trick for me.

Yea tried that and it was a non supported option as well. Only thing I could do was fast forward which made it almost instance. Its still bullcrap that these locks are put on any movie.

Odd. It didn't make us do that when we rented it.

Ours was also on the PS3, no forced download.

Is there any real reason to allow Blue Ray Internet Access on the PS3? I have mine set to allow but it only downloads trailors and useless extras that I do not care about.

Haha, doing anything other than ripping your DVDs and then watching them.

It really baffles me that people buy DVDs or any sort of video disc. (No, I don't really pirate video. Except Twilight. I had to see how terrible it was without paying for it.)

I'm old school. I enjoy owning the disc and giving money to the people who made the movie, if I like it enough to want to own it.

This mostly. I also like watching the directors commentaries, which you can do if you rent, but I really never feel like watching it right away after watching the movie the first time.

But, I know people on both sides. There are some who just buy dvd's (usually on sale and in bulk) and never watch them. Their libraries are insane and yet they still need more. Then there are the people I know who rent and burn dvd's, and they still dont watch them but just keep them for when they want to watch it later.

Every time I watch a DVD I haven't ripped I just get mad at all of the commercials. It's like VHS all over again.

You haven't seen commercial hell till you watch the standard DVD version of UP.

I remember renting that before we had our PS3. We didn't have any troubles with it.

You don't remember the hundreds of Disney Ads before you even got to the movie, then the hundreds more afterward?

I should mention that this was the edition of UP that didn't have a menu or special features.

If its a visually/audio stunning film, I buy it on Blu Ray. I own two to date, Avatar and Transformers 2.
If its a new movie but not OMGZOWIE it the A/V Department I'll get it on Blu ray or DVD from Netflix
If its a new movie but not OMGZOWIE it the A/V Department I'll get it on Blu ray or DVD from Netflix and I like it, I'll buy the DVD or Blu Ray if its cheap.
If its a non visually/effect driven film or something I want to watch ASAP that's not on Netflix Demand I'll Torrent it.

So far the DVDs I've rented from Netflix have not forced me to watch trailers or commercials. They're there, but easy to skip.

Been avoiding Blu-ray untill its finally the only thing available. No sense in paying more for something that is on reg DVD and most of us cant really tell the difference. Plus! non of the crap your talking about is on them. Or you can skip it.

I doubt this has anything to do with the format, but I have also noticed that more DVDs/Blurays seem to have commercials or trailers at the very beginning, which you cannot skip. And yeah. That's annoying as hell. If I have paid to purchase the damn film, I darn well ought to be able to avoid looking at advertisements if I don't want to. I suspect that part of the reason for this is to try to lower sale prices and make their products a bit more attractive, but it's starting to have the opposite effect. I can certainly see some people deciding to obtain a pirated/torrented/whatever copy of a film, not because of unwillingness to pay, but of the unwillingness to have to sit through 5 minutes of extraneous content every single time they want to watch it.

It's a really really dumb move. I've only seen it on a few disks, but I'd never seen it until just the last couple years. Want to put trailers at the start of the film? Great. But don't disable the menu button while doing it. That just pisses people off.

I notice pretty easily when there's almost 3x more pixels (720). Especially noticeable when there's exactly 6x more pixels (1080). I can put 6 dvd's playing at native resolution on my computer screen at once and still have room for the taskbar and more. I can't, however, put more than 1 bluray playing at native resolution.
