lol I vote for the newbie area, and the joining of The Asylum and the OoT.

My reasons are...

1) MEGA-LULZ

2) EPIC LULZ

My only other opinion is to remove that stupid TV, Books, and Videogame forum. It's bloody pointless, that's what OOT is for.

We can't talk about books, movies, tv shows, or POKGEMANZ in the OOT. Politics seems mostly Asylum. Whats does that leave ? Whining about life and sports ? **** that. Oh wait, I can't do that either.

I voted "Leave Comment Below" and this is it:

I think it should be left alone. The Asylum is really not attractive to me. It's full of Americans speaking American, talking about American subjects. the only reason I didn't vote the second option is that, for me, this is the forum to flame, fap and annoy each other and Talk about ridiculous subjects.

Hell we're happy to say to people "if you get rated down, suck less or think, about what you post", why can't we say that about this forum?

I've been on the receiving end of people comments, because generally my posts are banal, or do not comprehend the subject at hand. You will not see me crying into my soup, I just get on with it.

However, I am being karma camped, can you sort it out please?

Honestly I don't think this is the appropriate time to conduct a poll. Maybe a poll to investigate the possibility, but certainly not one to decide the matter. People are too emotional right now, and unable to make a more rational decision.

I have mixed feelings about the issue, and really would like to discuss it some more with people before making up my mind. I see the benefit of a forum merge being to free up a new section of the site for growing future potential OOT/Asylum members, because currently neither forum is doing a great job growing its own.

The downside being that I still feel the pysical separation of the OOT and asylum benefits discussion in both areas. The OOT and asylum, as much as members may cross over, still have their own shticks. A merger could lower new thread creation.

No need for a link. It's simple: When threads get out of hand, you move them (to =4) and give a warning to keep that **** in the appropriate forum. If they don't learn, you warn, you ban, you do something to back it up. Honestly, every other board I've ever been on with a dedicated "flames" forum works that way but here, when I've brought this up, I get some variant of "We've tried that and it just doesn't work". I won't even argue that point -- I'm not an admin and maybe it really is too hard to do. I can't imagine why that would be though or why it's a seemingly better solution to create even MORE sandbox forums every time you guys (in a general sense, not you-you) decide one has become unsuitable for the tenderhearted.

It's like owning a cat and, instead of insisting that the cat uses the litter box you bought for it, you just move the cat to a different room of the house once one gets so full of cat **** that no one wants to enter it any longer.

This is why the forums are getting slower, it's a hassle just to make a post. There's really nothing to post about in an OoT without Books, movies, and television. I don't want to talk about my feelings and I don't want to talk about politics. I want to talk about the last episode of Fringe which was CRAAAAAAAAAZY.

Now that I think about it, he'd probably just get permabanned for the last time. You can't have a "more moderated" OOT with varrus popping in to tell everyone how much he hates homosexuals.

Move threads that cross the line to the Asylum, with a link here saying it was moved. You, DF, said that was a pain in the ***.

Still the best solution. /shrug

If you want easy and maybe next-best I'd say sure, merge the two, make a new sandbox with clean sand and no cats allowed. Be sure you can actually restrict certain posters from posting there, though, because the temptation to kick sand when you know for a fact people will cry about it is very strong for some people.

In my view, though, the OOT and the Asylum have very different flavors and the commingling will be a little strange.

The "rest of the Asylum," beyond the people that have already crossed over, is about 5 people that basically only post when the OOT is asked to move into the Asylum.

I picked "leave the current options". The first option sounds to me like reinventing the wheel and I think you'd end up with the same people in the "newbie area" where it's safe and the same people in the Asylum after a readjustment period. Basically, we have enough options available to those who choose to post appropriately. I would say stepping up the thread moving might be a good way to demonstrate to those in the OOT what is and what is not appropriate for this particular forum. I think folks will get mighty annoyed, but since there seems to be an issue of clarity on what exactly is acceptable in this forum that may be the best way to get the point across.

I remember when the Asylum was a dominant 32 year old Ukrainian girl, now she's 49 and has a establish career. (AKA BOOORING)

I agree to an extent, and I am also partly responsible as I pushed strongly for an anime forum, which ended in teh creation of a media forum. Still I think the OOT was slowing down even before then.

If it's a pain to move threads, buy a better forum. Hell the IPB is only $75 and you can move threads really easily.

I always thought of the asylum as an area to post high brow discussion/news. Maybe I'm far off the mark, I've never lurked in the asylum for very long.

The OoT was always a place where I could read the most random topics that I didn't even WANT to know about at the time, but I found many funny stories/comments. I sort of thought the OoT WAS the uncensored forum.

Eh, guess I'm wrong.
#24 May 05 2009 at 6:40 AM Rating: Good
Ask the Asylum, as well.

I voted for the first option because even though I see some problems with it. Are you going to restrict posting by "regulars" in the merry newbie forum? How many regulars would leave? I can think of at least three people who have said so in the past, but in the end we have probably grown closer in a way.
