I'm talking about the all-star survivor. It seemed to me that 3 of the people taht voted for Amber, didn't really want her to win. They just wanted Rob to lose. And why???

Isn't the name of the game to outlast, outwit and overcome?? Isn't that what he did? Some of those people took the game way to serious. Dude you said you would help me out later if I help you out now.... What did they expect?

Anyway, I thought he should have one, because he took the risks. Amber just sucked up and skated through in his shadow.

It's hard to judge when you're not the one out there living on some crappy island with these people all day and all night for days on end. I'm sure they didn't show a lot of how WELL Rob played the game by being good friends and it seems like him and Lex were pretty tight before the show even started. Same with Kathy. And Tom just seemed like he fell in love with Rob. Alicia shook his hand and made a promise and game aside, some people play with their hearts. I didn't think Amber deserved to win but I think I would have been sick if Rob had won too.

/em goes to vote for Rupert for the 6th time

Well, in a couple cases, I think it was just pure sour grapes.

I was kinda surprised about Lex and his diatribe to/about Rob. He made a big deal about the "game" being more then just a game. But, he was the same player who backstabbed two of his alliance members, one right after the other, and called it "just business". Hmmm... Pot, meet Kettle...

Rob is, to my knowledge, the first "leader" in Survivor to actually follow through with keeping his original tribe all the way through the game. Everyone else (even Coby) started whittling their own tribe members away once the merge happened. I honestly think that's why folks like Lex and Kathy were pissed at him. He didn't swap his alliances around after the merge, and they expected him to.

He went into a merge with 6 people from his original tribe. The only member of his tribe that went before all the other tribe's people were gone was Alisha, and that was purely because Shian won immunity when there were only 7 people left, so they had no choice. He kept all his promises to his original tribe. Sure. He promised other people other things, but he was not required to keep those promises.

The only person who really had a legitimate beef with him was Tom. However, I'm relatively certain that Rob and Amber would have much rather taken Tom into the final 3 then either Rupert or Jena. That choice alone indicates that Rob really did fear that Tom would backstab him and switch sides, so he and Amber made a deal with Rupert and Jena to go into the 4 person challenge as two groups of two (which would seem nice and even), thus eliminating the swing vote that Tom represented. Was it a backstab? Sure. But I don't think it was malicious. If Rob had been totally confident that Tom wouldn't betray him, he wouldn't have done it. There was just no advantage to taking on 2 vs 2 odds instead of having the guaranteed 2 vs 1 if they'd taken Tom instead.

I thought the guy played a great game. I was also not surprised at all about the engagement. I've been telling my friends that that was going to happen for weeks now. Just had a hunch. Also made it kind of funny that the final award of the money really didn't matter...

Is Rupert the one who looks like Sweetums?
If so then he gets my vote if he's still on the show.

My husband says that he remembers back in one of the episodes when Lex slipped up and unintentionally outted an alliance between him and Tom, something I had forgotten about. When Rob called Tom on it you notice that he dodged it by mumbling and going into another issue. Sounds to me like he did have one even though I do think he intended to stick with Rob all the way through. But imo that was just out of plain laziness at the game if you can call it that. I simply cannot believe that him and Rupert fought with Rob grinning ear to ear right next to them.

I was glad to see Lex got booed. Mr. Just Business got his just desserts.

I don't understand the purple rock thing. They don't use past votes anymore? I thought the rock was to break a past votes tie. Yet looking at: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor8/show/tcvh.shtml Jenna and Rob had no votes while Rupert had one. !? Did they just miscount?

They did use past votes during the earlier series'. I honestly don't remember when they changed.

One thing to remember is that the "rules" of survivor are never set in stone. Presumably, the guys running the game decide on the rules to use, and the challenges to present, and all the twists ahead of time. However, the contestants do not know any of this, and there's no guarantee as to what the rules will be. All the know is that in order to win the prize, they have to be the last remaining survivor. There's no requirement for them to have challenges, there's no requirement for there to be votes. They could just one day decide that the last person to sit down at a tibal council has to leave. There are no set rules.

In practice, they tend to keep following the core rules. There are challenges, and rewards, and immunity. But the details can change and can't be taken for granted. In the last series before this, they brought back two people who'd already been voted off previously. So even getting voted off is no guarantee that you've lost the game.

I don't think they knew for sure if a tie would be resolved using a colored rock. They just assumed so because that's how it was done the last couple times. That's part of the fun of survivor. They never know for sure what will happen. I think the producers do that on pupose. You don't want a tie because you have no idea how it will be resolved. Jeff tells you that you have to vote someone out, you'd better vote someone out, or something random will happen...

All part of the fun.

I think Jeff said right before a break that they would discuss the "rock issue" but they never got to it. Boo!

The "rock issue" he was saying they'd be back to talk about was the ring on Amber's (?) finger, and since the camera went to it right away he decided they'd talk about it right then and there. :)

**Edit - Never really followed Survivor, just saw the last one because my girlfriend taped it and wanted to watch it with me /shrug**

Bah. I was busy watching Mad Mad House. It seemed much more wacky and the contestants were cleaner.
