Why?

Seriously?

Yeah seriously. Even if "global warming" as a doomsday concept didn't exist, all of the debauchery leading up to it is still bad for us in general. For years we've been polluting our breathable air, drinkable water, and inhabitable land with the waste of our poor resource management practices. Even if global warming WAS a hoax, we've still got a boatload of other problems to deal with, not the least of which is our limited fossil fuel supply which, completely independent of other factors, could be the downfall of our civilization if we don't find a better than adequate solution, and sooner rather than later.

Bizarro logic that really only lends credence to idiots like gbaji who would argue that global warming is a far-reaching conspiracy of control. Seriously, don't display an attitude that could be construed as appreciative of global warming; it just confirms what the wackjobs behind this pseudo-petition claim. Of course, it's right in line with your typical lack of faith in humanity to believe that we as a planet need this Sword of Damacles hanging over us in order to facilitate change.

That's like saying that if Dyadem didn't have AIDS, he wouldn't be properly motivated to not share needles, let strange men **** in his butt or take every precaution against pneumonia. That may be a bad example, but it's a funny one nonetheless.

Okay Stubs.

I must be pretty awesome to have you feeling so trapped after one post that you're already resorting to "I know you are but what am I?"

You can sign the petition..

So could I, so could millions of Americans. However only about 30 thousand did.

The fact remains however, that the climate scientists that the worlds governing bodies turn to, have come to different conclusions than Singer and gang.

I'm not trapped. Your logic was a fallacy.

I said:

The problem would exist even without "global warming", so why do you wish it to go away?

You interpreted:

Without global warming, nobody would realize or address the problem, so it's good to have it looming over our heads.

You misunderstood. It happens. No need to get your panties in a bunch.

Uh huh.

That's uh, no better. The "problem" of global warming wouldn't exist if global warming weren't real. We'd have other problems.

Why wish it gone? Pretty simple: it would be one less potentially cataclysmic event.

You are embodying exactly what the National Center for Anxiety guy claims believers in global warming are truly motivated by. You have good intentions, sure, but the ends don't always justify the means, especially when they give guys like gbaji ammunition.

I think it's funny how Al Gore is going on and on about Global Warming and saying it's true. This is coming from the same man who says he invented the Internet.

If it's good enough for Vin Cerf, it's good enough for me.

Quote:
Vinton G. Cerf, a senior vice president at MCI Worldcom and the person most often called "the father of the Internet" for his part in designing the network's common computer language, said in an e-mail interview yesterday, "I think it is very fair to say that the Internet would not be where it is in the United States without the strong support given to it and related research areas by the vice president in his current role and in his earlier role as senator."

I can't believe that in 2008, after even Big Oil admits to global warming, that anyone is arguing this stuff. Seriously. The Oregon Petition. Signed by scientists. Oh, look, 9000 Ph. D. level scientists have signed it--even ones that are not qualified or knowledgeable about the climate or the effects of pollution. Wow, that's so ************* relevant.

Why are we still discussing this sh*t?

Just for giggles, I ran a handful of the names through Google. I only did about 10 names, all distinctive names so I would get as little "noise" as possible. I found one guy who was a rather respected aerospace engineer but who died prior to the petition, a handful of dead ends (no Google hits), a couple PhD's in fields almost wholely unrelated (medicine, structural engineer), one tangentially related (magnetics) and one joker who signed as Umass Lowell, PhD.

Needless to say, I was not very impressed.

Probably because the visible signs are not really so blatantly obvious in the western world yet, so the skeptics haven't been suitably beaten over the head by unseasonal weather yet.

Personally i think it would take a significant shift in the North Alantic Current to convince some people, even then i'm not sure some would believe.

It's okay Stubs. I never expect you to consider or understand the ramifications of your opinions, in the same way I don't expect you to man up when you're shown to have faulty thinking. It's what makes you such a wonderful toy, after all.

Maybe. Personally, I think it has more to do with the fact that a lot of people in my country would much rather not take responsibility for their actions and don't want to change their ways.

That too, there's never only one reason people do (or don't in this case) things.

Which part? The part where he uses sources and facts he doesn't understand in order to back up his claims? Or the part where he doesn't attempt to comprehend any side of the argument but his own (read: he doesn't actually read his opponent's view)?

The part where he'll drop this topic for now and declare in six months that he was right.
