Having very frustrating router issues..Follow

Alrighty, here's the story. This seems to be a fairly common problem among wireless router users regarding EverQuest, but it seems that I am still having no luck. I've scoured countless threads and FAQ's, called customer support for my ISP, router manufacturer and Sony. Nothing I have tried seems to work just yet. I'll get to the problem shortly, here are my system specs:

HP Pavilion zx5000 laptop
Mobile Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz
512 MB RAM
ATI Radeon 9200
Windows XP Home Edition
Broadcom 54g MaxPerformance 802.11g Wireless adapter

Router:
Linksys BEFW11S4
Cable Internet connection, typically 11MBps w/ router

Here we go. I've tried just about everything in the book and just about every combination. I have all firewall disabled. I'm currently using firmware version 1.45.7 because I was told that downgrading could provide a solution, all to no avail. I've tried setting up a port triggering option in the range of 1024 to 7000 as well, but no luck there either. Also tried changing the DataRate file in the EQ directory from 5.0 to 3.0, no help. I also made sure it wasn't something stupid like my mouse or trackpad freezing up, I can connect just fine with dial-up, but I can't be tying up the phones constantly.

After scouring the boards, I've found that most people are able to connect initially and then their conenction gets dropped after about 15 minutes or so. I can connect, patch and continue past that, but when I get to the "siezure warning" screen, I start to move my pointer to the accept button and it freezes up right before I can click it. It seems I'm having a different sort of problem here.

It could just be me, because honestly, I'm clueless and COMPLETELY new to this wireless home network thing. I'm no tech buff, but I know enough to get by.

Do you guys have any other possible solutions that I could try to get connected, or maybe I just have done something but done it incorrectly. I guess what I'm really looking for is a "dumbed down" version of instructions for a solution that you might have.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

If you can, disable SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection). I had problems going LD with my new Netgear router until I disabled it.

I really have no idea how I would go about changing something of that sort, honestly. I cannot find anything regarding that on my "base" station, or whatever it may be called, as I said, I'm completely new to wireless networking and basically serious computer problems in general. I'll run a search for it and see if I can't find a walkthrough of some kind.

I don't exactly have problems with going LD, as I have never been able to log in past the siezure screen before. My screen freezes up after roughly 3 seconds of being active.

Chat and telephone support with Sony seem to be down for the time being, but still no progress has been made.

I also tried restoring my settings to their factory defaults, which were my instructions to fix the problem in the e-mail I recieved asking for support. No dice, BUT I did recieve a critical system error message when I opened my port triggering range from 1023 ~ 65535. I figured that was some kind of progress, hehe.

This is quite the dilly of a pickle, indeed. =)

Return that router if you can. Had one; it was complete junk. Wouldn't carry a signal more than 4 feet. I actually took paint chips to find out of there was a high lead content in them....

Turns out it was just a piece of junk. Drop that Linkdead and go get yourself a Netgear, boy. They aren't perfect, (my last one died within the warranty period and they didn't cover it, won't even reply to emails, and the serial# comes up as invalid) but it was cheap, worked well until it got popped by lightning, and best of all, I didn't have to configure anything to get going.

Wow, what a shame. I can't return this one anymore, lost the reciept forever ago, I seriously don't know. Humph. I guess buying one that is more compatible is my only *practical* option.

Funny thing is that I don't experience wierd conectivity problems with it, rangewise. I can play FFXI perfectly fine outside on the deck of our house, through a brick wall. I just need to get the settings right to get EQ to run.

first, lets make sure it is the router. try taking the router completely out of the loop, just run the patch cable from you modem to the computer temporarily.; If you can connect without issue, the problem is the router. return it and get a refund.

If the issue persists, there are a variaty of other possibilities.
