OK, so I set up an account, played around in the newbie zones and set off into the big bad world.
Doing well in the early stages, worked up to a giddy lvl 40 and feeling pretty cocky.
Then I came across the Alliance...

Specifically, Hunters who seem to be equipped with arrow that kill me in a single shot, usually from behind while I'm trying to take out a mob.

I haven't a prayer. My instant cast spells aren't disabling enough to prevent that killing shot and my more powerful spells take several seconds to work up - giving them all the time in the world. My armour (hollow laugh) does nothing.

This really sucks, I keep running across the same players time and again, who are obviously having fun at my expense. It's ruining the game for me because I can't finish any quests to gain xp. I've tried fighting back but my options seem hopelessly limited.

Can someone suggest ANYTHING I can do? Some tactic of offence or defence that might at least give me a fighting chance?

Transfer to a PvE server. Seriously.

PvP balance is completely off before 85, and Blizzard keeps saying that they don't have the resources to really get into it and fix it.

Maybe just avoid questing during peak hours and do some dungeons instead. Try a different zone if it's always the same people killing you.

I agree you should give a PvE realm a try. You could simply start another character if you want to avoid the cost of a realm transfer. Plus that way you could check out the new realm to see how it is. It's also your choice as to whether you make the same class, or try something new.

People roll on a PvP realm if they want the added danger. You don't seem to be enjoying that.

PvP realms always do that to ya. Hell even in PvE if you are flagged you are asking for it basically. However in PvE you only get flagged if you attack an NPC of an enemy faction, enemy player, or flag yourself manually. PvE is generally the best for newbies to start out on, generally you will find an assortment of PvP guilds, PvE guilds, etc.

Sen'jin has a very high PvE community (raiding mostly) however I have noticed PvP is on the rise.

I thought I *WAS* on a PvE server, Burning Steppes right?

In the quests, I'm supposed to attack humanoids who might be taken as opposing faction, does that get me flagged?

Enemies that will flag you have an icon next to their portrait. Those likely won't be mobs you need to attack for quests.

I can't find a Burning Steppes on the US Realm Status page, but if you're in the EU, then it is indeed a PvP server.

Also, those quests that will flag you for pvp will say so in their description. You can skip them.

I could swear on a stack of {insert choice here) that I selected PvE when I set up the account - Oh well...

I don't mind a fight, but I have to say the Warlock seems unnecessarily weak and vulnerable. As far as I can see the 'Demon Armour' does absolutely nothing! I tried it out on some low level mobs and couldn't detect a difference.

Casters generally start weak compared to other classes and don't catch up to others until somwhere in their 50's.

I hope you're not trying to level with a Destruction spec, though. It would be extremely squishy compared to Affliction or Demonology because it lacks the improved self-healing or the Felguard taking the hits for you. Also, don't forget to keep Soul Link active at all times.

As a mid-60s Affliction lock, I don't feel squishy at all in PvE. I can DoT up multiple mobs while my Felhunter is chewing away on them, and the incoming healing from Siphon Life and actively draining keeps me going forever. It's also now that the tide is slowly turning in PvP against most classes. Unless I'm jumped on by a rogue or truly set up by a hunter, I usually at least take my opponents with me to hell and get to watch them die before I release my corpse.

When I did demon armor, glyph'd soul link, blueberry, etc. I got to feeling pretty non-squishy. I don't think destruction really felt complete to me until I got Chaos Bolt though.

Rogues get grumpy if you shadowfury and daze them with conflagrate.

I'm running demonology, although I was wondering if I made a good choice. Some of the comments I've read suggested it was a bad idea.
It's nice to know it's worth pushing on.

Maybe I'll be braver when I get some armour...Level 50? I do hope so. Thanks for the advice.
