UH vs FrostFollow

#1 Feb 20 2011 at 6:42 PM Rating: Decent
I know people are going to hate me for bring back a post like this but...

I'm getting bored and wanted to switch my unholy to frost to try it out, but first I wanna know if anyone had any personal experience with both and give me a solid basis as which one is most likely to pull for dps. I don't wanna go in the hassle of re organizing my bars, glyphs, etc..

I pull like 12-14k dps on bosses in heroics (not amazing, I know) and I wanted to try frost.

Unholy 2-hand> Frost DW > Frost 2-hand>>>>>>>>Unholy DW (Meaning don't do it).

You will lose dps by switching to Frost, possibly quite a lot. Do it if you want, but not if you are looking to increase your dps.

That list is based on BiS gear and hardmode raid buffs. If you're just in 5-toon heroics the DPS variation doesn't really matter much.

What I will add is that Unholy has a slower threat/damage ramp up curve than Frost (either variety). This means that you're slower to generate damage with Unholy which can mean overall lower total damage output in the fast kills of heroics. On the other hand, Frost is very bursty which means a higher total damage output for shorter fights but that comes with a lot of up-front threat. So you need to be slightly more cautious in the first few seconds of engagement as Frost compared to Unholy.

Also remember that DPS is just a quotient. Total damage out is what you should be looking at for boss fights.

Cheers.
