is pretty steep for us hunters. .

How are you all doing with the way focus works?

I was doing about 6-6.5k on H dummy with SV before patch. I'm doing about 2k more now, but I know it can go much higher due to my 5 minutes of playing with the new system.

What have you guys been hitting and with what spec?

I'm still installing but I do tend to check out MM pve first. What pet are you using for solo now? Still a wolf or did you catch a new family already? Atm I can't determine what pet suits us best for solo pve. Gonna take a look at the pet spreadsheats and come back :].

EDIT: well, it seems Malazee is going for the armor debuff from a raptor or serpent. Gonna get my old shiny red raptor and get to the testing soon enough.

I haven't been able to quite finish the download yet ******** internet speed). On the PTR I was doing like 8-9k on BM, but that was before a few damage reductions and I was never properly glyphed or gemmed. Hopefully once I get this all rolling I'll be BM with SV off spec and we'll see how things go.

BM rotation/priority was pretty easy to get used to. With SV not having Cobra yet it can be really focus starved. You can't even DoT and use your main ability all to open a fight. But I'll definitely have to play around with it and see what happens.

If you think you have found a good rotation/priority post it I'll add it to the guide for now and just update it for Cata. Since I know at least SV and BM will be using cobra over steady in cata.

BM is still putting out those numbers. So is SV.

So far I've learned a few things concerning both SV and BM.

With BM I'm getting really good numbers on single target spamming the sh*t out of red pet > kill command > arcane however many times > FF > then that viper thing to get my focus back, rinse repeat. I was able to hit 8k on a heroic boss in halls of stone.. not too bad and much better than BM previously did.

On trash SV is really awesome. I launch an explosive trap and then spam multi-shot (hits all targets now :D).

The focus is still so hard to get used to but thus far I'm pretty happy with hunters dps still.

Any tricks you guys have figured out that you want to share?

Omg 1337!

I think for BM it's pretty much going to be like,

Serpent Sting -> Kill Command -> Arcane til can't -> Steady 2-3x

Though I've heard different ideas as to when to use BW whether to use it on FF or not. They mentioned something about stealing the pets attack speed if you use Bestial Wrath in conjuction with FF. So you might want to open with serpent to allow your pet to get into position, you could even wait for FF to proc and then use BW since you know that will have 5 stacks at that point. It'll all come down to the numbers.

In SV they are talking about possibly using explosive before serpent and black arrow, but explosive shot's damage I hear is awful and arcane I believe is still better than it cost per focus wise and that explosive is only beneficial to use during LnL procs.

Once cata comes out and we have cobra shot it was be so much better, we won't have to worry about refreshing serpent sting as much in BM/SV.

I don't really know how to classify the new things yet.

It is a huge change on the Hunter class and I'm trying to figure it out now with MM/SV builds. Didn't try the BM yet, but I'll surely do.

Probably the most annoying thing is the missing Volley and the ultra stupid MultiShot at the moment. Didn't find any use of it as you'd probably need 5 or more mobs to pull out as much DPS using MS as with your single target attacks.

The "rotation" for MM is almost the same. Open with HM->Kill->Chimera->Steady x N->Aimed. The priority I found for me is the Kill Command and the Chimera. This isn't a problem cause of the SS spam. I use Aim as soon as it procs and it's focus free. Arcane Shot is totally off for me. I can't find where to put it. Its damage is absolutely minimal compared to everything else.

The SV build on the other hand consumes tons of focus and I'm always on the edge to build focus for the next Explosive, Black Arrow and Serpent Sting. I'm OK as long as I'm spamming SS again.

Smashing the dummies was OK, standing still and attacking. But everything goes down in a dungeon. Usually there's not enough time for the Aimed Shot to proc as well as LnL. And... if the boss fight requires more movement... well you can forget about the DPS. SS requires you to stand still and if you are moving too much you'll fire less SSs and won't get the free Aimed and etc....

I hope it will be fine when we start raiding tomorrow.

Yeah it's going to take some time to figure things out and hopefully improve further with the addition of cobra shot.
The thing about arcane vs es is right on the money. Kinda bums me out since ES is the reason to go SV in the first place.

The only thing that really bothers me is SV in pvp now. I used to be top kills in BGs but now I'm having a lot of trouble with being forced to steady for focus. A lot of the time in pvp you just cannot stand still and my mobility with SV is what made it so owner. :(

Yeah it's really clunky right now. Once Cata hits we get Fox at 83 and we can run and cast steady and cobra, as well as constantly regening. It'll be a lot more fun in pvp then.

In pve my BM spec is now putting me at +-8k dps at the Hc dummy, and around 8.5k on short boss fights in the average hc.
Pvp BM is also just awesome, in a duel you can almost outburst anything, and bg's are pretty fine too. Imo BM is just great at the moment. Haven't been testing MM though, but I've heard it should be alright, even though the o-boards are exploding with tears.

Edit: just to add that the heal from spirit beasts is godly in pvp :]. Finally adds a new dimension in hunter vs healer pvp. And in any hunter vs dps fights it's a lifesaver.

So Arcane Shot does ~2.3K damage on a target dummy for 25 focus, and Kill Command does 2800 for 40 focus (with 15 Mastery). Even with KC's 10% higher crit rate and Killing Streak that seems like it's not worth it. Do other BM's agree or am I missing something?

EJ has gone over some rotations for 4.0.1. They also bring up a good point about using Improved Steady Shot right now over Pathing since the haste effect is much better with ISS than Pathing and the fact that every spec currently will be using Steady to regen focus that at the current time it will be more beneficial to grab ISS instead of Pathing.

EDIT: Wait a second, this only applies to the MM spec I believe. Right now no other spec can reach improved steady shot as we only have 5 left over talents. I was thinking they were talking about picking this up for the other specs.
