I mostly just found the Obama quote ironic.

As for the spying on us thing it's creepy and no so much so at the same time.

I think I went into this a bit in one of the previous threads, but my uncle works for military intelligence, so they keep up with the goings on of his family members to some degree. Kind of amusing story, a while back we managed to cause some trouble for him. Apparently they got wind of me getting married to a foreign-looking woman up in Canada. This was right on the heels of my dad getting his dual-citizenship and they suddenly were very concerned about the increasing number of foreign nationals in the family.

Apparently they were convinced after some explanation from us and some "deeper" digging around that no I wasn't living in Canada, and no my wife wasn't from Korea, but they still made my father submit proof of his US citizenship. Which seemed odd, especially given he was in the military himself for several years and you'd think they would have those records of that or something? I dunno, all in all it was a fairly unsettling experience, and leaves you wanting to keep your Smiley: tinfoilhat on as much as possible.

So ya anyway, after that the whole "we haz ur metadata" thing is kinda meh. Smiley: lol

It's kind of hot here in New York today . . .

And my daughter is 3/4 Italian. And 1/4 Sicilian. From the sound of it lolgaxe --

(private joke among some Italians about Sicily not really being part of Italy)

She'd better have some Sicilian in her, consider my side of the family tree is there. Smiley: motz

It's not every day you give a ride to two people who could kill you easily... Thankfully, Master Seargeants are allegedly fairly ethical overall.

Also, the air force students were by FAR my favorites.

My little brother said he wants to join the air force when he's done with highschool (he'll be 19 then). I'm not sure it's such a good idea since there are a massive 16 F16 pilots in our entire country and there is very little to our air force. We still have a fairly respectable navy that hunts pirates but I don't think the air force gets to do much beyond guarding a few ancient American nukes.

Not all Air Force are pilots. If your Air Force is anything like ours, then it's probably the cushiest government job short of being a senator.

Sounds like easy money to me.

Not so great if you want to change the world for the better or something I suppose.

I wanted to join the Air Force once, but turns out I'd lose my legs at the knees if I ever had to punch out.

Was fun being in the Army, though. Well, more like horrible sprinkled with fun times. The shooting, the uniform and the camaraderie was fun, but having to sleep on the ground, in pouring rain, in the middle of the winter, for no more than two hours at a time... kinda sucked after a while. And the camo cream coupled with constant close shaving messed up my skin. Oh, and taking crap from teenagers with an IQ level that forced them into the service, and who clearly had very little education in the arts of teaching... not so cool.

"You will put that mask on and stuff baking soda into it, now!"
"Why?"
"DO IT!"
"But I know how to put the mask on - we did it just a minute ago. And baking soda interacts with the acidic sweat on my face, causing it to release carbon dioxide, which in turn reacts with the water in my sweat, turning it into carbonic acid, which, as the name implies, is acidic and stings, especially when our skin is already cracked because of this dehydrating camo cream. I'm pretty sure that if someone dropped a can of mustard gas on us, we'd panic and die within a minute, anyway. It's not like we'd think to put on our mask AND stuff it full of baking soda."

That's what I thought, but I didn't say it out loud, because that's refusing a direct order, which could land me in jail.

So now I give the orders... to their kids. Smiley: sly

I'm so glad they abolished the mandatory army time years ago here. I would've sucked at it as I can never resist arguing when I'm told to do something I disagree with.

There was an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on reddit yesterday by a 91 year-old WWII pilot who flew quite a few different planes and was also a bombardier. His comment on U.S. Army vs. Navy vs. Marines vs. Air Force? "The Air Force has the best golf courses." Smiley: laugh

I don't play golf, but I do hit a little white ball as far as I can with a crooked stick. It's strangely relaxing.

This week has been stressful. At the nine-pounds-lost level of stress.

I'm not going to think about how unhealthy that is. That'll just make it worse...

That's why busy and stressed out people usually balance that out with lots of 99-cent cheeseburgers and 800-calorie mochas.

Thankfully, I have today and tomorrow off. I'm spending it seeing friends (for the first time in three+ weeks), and sending out job applications.

Yeah. Fortunately, the intense stress of my current job came with quite a bit of experience, which will help.

Helps a lot when the minimum requirement for any job in any field seems to be that you have at least 2 years of experience.

Also, enjoy your stress-less weekend!
