so after getting to lvl 56 in un'goro crater and owning up on the gold elite dino's (they were a lvl or 2 above me), i get all cocky and head to WPL and start questing there.

for the All Along the Watchtowers (Group) quest, there's a gold elite undead guarding each tower. i think, ok, no problem, those dinos were a pushover (not really but you know) and so i try killing it. send in VW, dot him up, drain life, pull aggro, and then get owned up nicely.

the first time, i didn't have a healthstone ready so i make one and try again. and get owned again. i don't have any health potions currently, but even that seems like it might not be enough to really let me get a good win.

since i can't fear them (which is what let me beat the dino's), am i just stuck not being able to do this quest solo until another level or 2? or is there a good tactic i haven't tried yet (i'm basically just drain tanking them)? should i lay off the dots some and try health funnel instead and keep my VW on it for longer? use succy for better pet dps?

any suggestions would be appreciated.

oh and i'm affliction specc'd, if that makes a difference.

thanks

You can finish this quest without fighting the undead. Just come up on the left side of each door, and inch up till you can use the torch, but have NOT aggroed the undead elite inside. You may need another level or two before you can get close enough to set off the torches, yet not aggro the elites, but if you can't find a group before then, they are doable solo.

Something alot of Locks I've spoken with/seen when trying to solo some tricky mob don't do is just let the VW get 2-3 Taunts in before you start your cycles. You'd be surprised how cemented a mob will get onto your VW if you just let him solo for the first 15-20 seconds. So that'd be my suggestion, send in the VW, let him attack the mob alone for 15 sec., then start your routine.

If Afflicition, doesn't CoEx work on Undead? When I was Aff and had it, I was a big fan of the CoEx, dotdotdot run, SB, Immo, SB, CoEx, run, etc.

First of all, it's true that undead elites are way harder than all other elites you can run into as a lock, since they are immune to fear, the best tactic for a lock to solo an elite. I can establish the following classification in terms of hardness to beat elites of that type:
Undead (immune to fear)>Beasts, humanoids etc>elementals(banish)>demons(banish, enslave)
Second, DON'T SAY GOLD ELITE! A gold elite is a normal elite. A silver mob is a RARE. SILVER ELITE is not a RARE, it's RARE ELITE like Ironeye, Zaricotl. It's better to call them rare elites than silver elites though in order to avoid confusion with real rares, often wrongly called rare elite. Check out my thread "Rare, elite, silver elite and boss" on the general forums for more info!
