Tailoring would be nice for bags and some of the BoP epics at 70 (frozen shadoweave comes to mind). Mining and skinning are gathering skills, so they are options if you want something that will make an income. That being said, I'd probably use (dis)enchanting to make money instead of one of those two professions, because it would have some utility besides the money factor in that you could do some enchantments for yourself and get rid of BoP quest greens, etc.

Smithing would be useless, more or less. So would leatherworking.

Engineering has some potentially good items and trinkets, but most of them are unreliable or expensive or both.

I'd probably go tailoring/enchanting, or tailoring/engineer if you're into a lot of PvP or just love gadgets

As for instances, I don't think the low-level ones are really worth the headaches and time you'd invest for what you get in terms of drops. I would just do the instances you have quests for at an appropriate level and not worry too much about it. If you get something nice that's great, but you shouldn't be waiting around lfg before endgame.

Even then you probably shouldn't.

Hope that helps.

Crafting generally loses money, unless you can find a niche. Even then, you will spend lots of gold to get to that niche, and the niche will dissappear when other crafters discover that there is gold to be made from it.

Go with gathering professions. Herbalism, Skinning, and Mining. Add in Fishing. If you are thinking at enchanting, go for the gathering side - Disenchanting, and sell the mats.

Instance for a Level 19? Deadmines if you are Alliance, Wailing Caverns if you are Horde. If you are a skinner, Wailing Caverns EVEN if you are Alliance. You will make more gold from the skins than you will from the drops.

Of the two, {DIS]enchanting/tailoring will give you more gold, even though you'll give up a lot of profit by using cloth instead of selling it.

For a Warlock i would say that Enchanting and Tailoring are a better combo than Alchemy and Herbalism. A&H is still good though, and less of a money sink, but if you can stick with E&T it pays off in the long run.

The problem with E&T is that it is best to disenchant Green items you make/find and can't use, rather than sell them. Although you can sell the Dust and Essences etc. you recieve from disenchanting, obviously these are also needed at some point to level up the Enchanting skill. With no gathering prof therefore, you will find yourself low on cash, especially if this is your first/main char. This isn't so bad for a Warlock though, as we do not have to fork out a load of gold at level 40 for a mount, and are not as gear dependant as other classes.

Although Enchanting and Tailoring is a great combo, just bear in mind that you will be quite poor for about the first half of the game, which can be a bit of a drag.

You don't get it, do you? Enchanting IS a gathering profession. You can work the AH, buy cheap greens, and double your gold. In the tradekills forum there are several articles on how to do it. The problem with most enchanters is that they feel that they have to produce enchantments. Those are your customers. Get rich off those fools, instead of being a fool yourself.

Whatever man. The last time I had an Enchanter at a low level it was about two and a half years ago. Obviously things change. My aim was to be helpful. Also, pedantically speaking, Enchanting is not a gathering profession. What you are talking about is playing the AH, which is a skill that is picked up from experience, not just guides. It was my intention not to make the presupposition that akeane was an experienced gamer, rather that this was one of his first characters, if not his main.

Having said that akeane, if what ohmikeghod says is true (and there is no reason to doubt him) then there is even more of a strong case to take up Enchanting and Tailoring as your professions.

Good luck, have fun.
