Warlock Build for the New GuyFollow

#1 May 23 2007 at 2:44 PM Rating: Decent
Alright, I prepared to get flamed and all that jazz.
History: Up until now I've been playing a Frost mage. I got my elemental and I love it so I decided to try a warlock, I got her to level 16 and now I’m wondering if this is a decent build for a warlock. I've noticed that the Warlocks are not as straight forward as some of the other classes. So I'm looking for help while I learn.
Here is my proposed build. Heavy in the Demon tree.

Please tell me what you think and am I missing some obvious talents.
Thanks.

For LEVELLING I reccomend affliction.

People say that demo is equal.. but even with felgaurd I find it slow.

I'd use this till atleast 50

[I did destruction with my remaining talents, but they ALL work..]

If you really like Demonology, then do it. I don't, and it IS less efficient, but what you enjoy is the best choice.

Your pet will NEVER compare to a hunters pet for damage/tanking, and I'm not sure how the elemental stacks up, but your pet is more to supplement you (ie he can disable [cc, silence] or buff [sac voidwalker for shield or imp for blood pact])

edit:
If you ARE deadset on demonology, then you only need to get Imp Pets for the one you plan to use.
If your Demonology, I reccomend voidwalker.
Affliction uses succubus or Imp.
Don't get improved pets at all, or if you do get only the one you use.

Also, Enslave demon is mediocre..
and if you want to have fg then you need imp health funnel.

hmm id suggest you go either afflic or destruc (i leveled destruc.. was outta mana alot, but still leveled pretty fast) UNTIL you can get your fg..

the other two trees are still able to use all the same pets.. just not the fg.

If you really wanna do demo from the start, you will kinda be weak, but when you get your fg, youll be like.. yah it rocks..

the one thing about warlocks that hunters cannot do is deal damage while healing pet. our dots are generally self sustaining for the x number of seconds they're running and you can easily use health funnel to heal your pet during this time. This basically saves us the mana cost of summoning up a new pet or perhaps help maintain that extra meatshield in the group if the healer doesn't really like to heal pets/forgets to do so/cannot see pet health for some odd reason.

personally I'm affliction with 7 points into demo for fel stamina and improved health funnel.
my only problem in parties is I usially end up drain tanking a mob or 2. (with +150 shadow damage (ie + 50-20% of my affliction spells). I find it difficult not to pull aggro off many tanks if they are not focusing on them. At least the offtank (voidie), cc and focus fire I try to bring to the party makes it less difficult for instancing.

A few comments:
Improved Enslave Demon is not worth it, other than the infernal and doomguard, enslave is rarely used, except when your summon dies and fel dom is down, or when you need to enslave an elite to take out another mob.

Improved succubus is also not worth it, since you don't have 3 points in it and you don't have improved Lash of Pain. She's good for a seduce nuke build for destruction, but in general, you're going to have the fel guard, since he's the best all-around pet you have.

I recommend this build:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=IV0bZbgczIizceszxx0z

It emphasizes the fact that as a Demo 'lock, you're not relying on your pet, your pet is relying on you. Therefore, 3/3 mana feed and Improved life tap help keep it charged with mana, and improved Health Funnel makes keeping it alive easier.

good you are prepared for flaming, cuz i LOVE flaming, and you sir, deserve a good burning.

that build sucks very much monkey balls, i would suggest you take either demo/affliction or demo/destro (demo destro being pvplike and demo affliction pvelike) dont get a hybrid build, if you are using improved corruption and drain life, you will RARELY be using shadowbolts, and viceversa, and if u went 20 aff or 20 estro u could be more specific in that.

felguard is really good, my 67 warlock is leveling extremely fast since i respecc'ed to get it, try it out, if you dont like it i suggest you go affliction, but unless you like to pvp A LOT, dont get destro tree until 70, it sucks for pve.

Yeah i would say for leveling i also am going to demonology. So far level 20 and im trying to get to level 50 so i can get the felguard. Demonology is actually one of the best because of the felguards great dmg/tanking combo. It can tank well but not as good as the Voidwalker. It does more dmg however than the voidwalker which makes it really good. I think when i get to 50 ill try soloing the infernal quest if the infernal is level 50-52 elite. If it is higher ill probably get a priest or other lock to help finish it.

On shadowsong i saw a level 70 lock killing the queen ellek in Nagrand and almosst got him. He laid DoT's then just healed the felguard. This is how i plan to kill the infernal.

I have to say: this build is wanting.

1. Why pass on Demonic Tactics in favor of improved voidwalker at level 70? Demonic Tactics is a major reason to spec demonology.

2. Mana feed and Enslave demon are a waste of 5 talents.

3. You should go fel intellect (even though tier 2 demo sucks) for your demonic knowledge, mana pool, etc.

4. Just go with COA for a DOT: and you can pass on afflcition all together.

try this build: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=AZcxczIiz0xsxxx0tr

where you add the final point in felguard or ruin: depends on choice. This is a topic on another thread.

Its really up to the stype. I was getting amazing dot's with affliction but pvp the battles ended too damn fast to maximize it: so now im favoring the above build. Ill prob change back because afflic flows so well, but pvp screws it up.
