I've been an affliction drain tanking lock since I was a wee-little lock. Always wanted to try the Destro tree out but figured I'd wait until I hit 70 to switch over, though I may switch a level or two sooner....we will see.

Anyway, I have a couple questions. First, this is how I was going to redo my talent points:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/warlock/talents.html?0502120500200000000000000000000000000000000505000512200510531051

I left out 3 points as I am not sure if I will use my imp more and go for an imp-machine gun or reduce the cooldown on my succy's lash of pain yet.

Then I started thinking about my points in the affliction tree. I love Night Fall as an affliction lock, but wonder if it is worth it as Destro. Same with the Fel Concentration in case I need to tank a little until the mob dies.

So first question, you destro locks, does the mob even get to you before he is dead with all that firepower you can send at them? I figured, send pet, Shadowbolt (or soulfire if cooldown is up), immolate as my bolt is in the air, shadowfury (stuns them long enough to do my next spell), Incinerate, conflag and end with shadowburn if needed. I know I know, I should roll a mage but lets get beyond that. If that is my general approach, NF and Fel Concentration would be pointless.

I guess my other question, and maybe it will help me choose my talents better, is how do you destro guys typically bring down a mob. Do you ever throw a DoT on them? Do you mainly Drain Hunt and try not to pull aggro from your demon?

Thanks for your thoughts, I am also aware that I will be going through water like crazy but cash is so easy to get in the Outlands that I simply don't care.

Hey lvl 68 lock here and here is my build http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/warlock/talents.html?0502000000000000000000300000000000000000000505520512200510531351 that i will be when i am 70. Nightfall is pointless with backlash, here is what i do wen attacking a mob. Tell Imp to attack it and run away from imp forming a triangle with me the mob and the imp forming the 3 points, then once imp attacks lay immolate, shadowburn, shadowfury, incinerate, conflagerate, drain soul. Ok well if any of those cause the aftermath affect i just run away towrds my imp ;etting him firebolt the mob. Generally the mobs i am attacking die from shadowfury or incinerate, so sometimes you can't use shadowburn as you will loose soul shards very quickly. With this build i use life tap a lot since i very rarely take dmg. Infact i am so confident in this attck that i wud attack a normal mob with no range or charging abilities with only 1Hp left. Soul leech will heal me a lot more than you think and generally for 250Hp. I only ever use shadowbolt when i take physical dmg and it procs the instant cast. Obviously i don't use the same plan every mob because that wud be mega boring so i through in fear, deathcoil, drain life, use different demon idk u decide but DOWNLOAD THREAT METER. Helps greatly. hopefully this long post has helped. O and buy lots of drinks because even with life tap you will eventually run out of mana and Hp so that just spells disaster, unless u have an uber wand that does 123dps like mine :)

I am liking the improved drain soul for the mana return proc especially since in the new patch I think (emphasizing the think) we will now get the mana proc even if our pet kills the mob.

Question on aftermath. Does it have a chance to proc on the DoT immolate or just the initial damage from immolate?

yeah aftermath can proc with DoTs. But the best time for it to proc is on ure opener so the mob is uber slow when trying to get to you allowing you to throw in an incinerate and shadowburn before he gets nailed with the shadowfury. :)

I just recently went Destruction as well (for raiding purposes) and decided to mess around with the Spellfire set. My talents are 0/21/40, as I am trying to max out my Immolate/Incinerate/Conflag spells. For grinding purposes, it is a little harder getting Soul Shards... However farming in general isn't as difficult as many would lead you to believe.

Personally, I sacrifice a Felhunter for the 3% mana regen (Many might go with the sac'd VW, but my STA is quite low in my current equipment). Immolate opens my battles followed by 2 Incinerates, and if needed Conflag to finish the battle (Shadowburn is always available too). With around 30% crit, most battles end before they can hit me a 2nd time (even they even reached me to begin with).

I really enjoy Backlash alot... Proc rate is incredible compared to Nightfall, and it adds a lil crit% as well for situations where you won't be getting hit (raids and what not). I think Nightfall only goes off your Corruption and Drain Life spells, so for my build its all but useless.

The downtime really isn't that bad, I just bandage when needed. And considering how quickly you can take one mob down, it all seems to even out with other builds.

Just respec'd last night to destro. Backlash is freaking amazing. I think it proc'd every single time I got into it with a mob. I only got to play for about 5 minutes after the respec so I am still learning my technique but thus far, dang it is fun. Burn them down baby!!!
