Hi everyone,

I have a noob question for a lvl 59 hunter.

Since I only played PvE so far (lack of time), I don't seem to understand the CC with freeze trap. I read in a lot of post that you can CC with that trap but I'm unsuccessful so far.

Let say there's 4 mobs in a tight pack and I want to attack one at a time. I lay a freezing trap on the ground, attack one of the mob. Obviously they all come but one get frozen. Then, I feign Death and they all leave except the one frozen. The problem is as soon as it get unfrozen, the mob run back to his friend and evade all my attacks.

The questions is: Is it possible to do CC with Freezing Trap? If so, what am I doing wrong?

Thx in advance for your answer.

Splitting up packs aren't exactly CC as we know it. CC stands for Crowd Control, and means incapacitating one or more mobs while taking out the rest of them. Splitting up packs with Freezing Trap isn't something I have tried myself, but I was told once that it had been "fixed" and was impossible to do. I can't verify this myself though.

Unfortunately this no longer works as NorthAI has said. They did fix this bug, so that if there is no aggro on the mob that is frozen in your trap, it will break the trap, and go back to it's buddies, evading you the entire time if you try to attack it.

Something must have it's attention in order for it to stay there. Basically what this means is you can't single pull when they're all clumped together.

Suggestion?

Set up your trap and wait for the cooldown on your traps. When it's up, pull your mobs to you. When one of them gets trapped, hit Freezing Trap again, to set another trap. Soon as that goes off, you should only have 2 mobs to deal with, hopefully your pet can tank 2 mobs. Kill 1 quickly, then you can decide if you need to run or if you can handle the rest. Pop out another trap when you can, or all 3 will be on you.

Worse case scenario, kill one very fast, run away, Feign Death, and come back.

That wasn't the trick (that's too simple).

I don't know if it still works or not, since I haven't tried using it. It actually is considered an exploit to separate linked mobs (which can get you banned), but it doesn't sound like yours are linked -- just close together. For the record, though, linked mobs are specifically coded so that they always come when one is attacked (mostly in instances).

Trick was to place freeze trap, pull group. Pull the rest of the group twice as far as the freeze trap, then FD. Now, all the mobs start heading back, but the frozen one gets there first. If you pull him now, while the others are in evade mode, they won't notice and won't follow -- they can't take any action until they reset themselves.

If your pet and you are seperate agro entities can't you do this?

1. Pull with a nice shot from max distance.
2. When mobs reach you, let pet attack the mob you pulled.
3. Lay a trap (pet stops attacking as mob is frozen.
4. Feign death (all mobs reset except frozen one as he has agro on your pet)

Anyone tried this?

Kelnoan, they would all aggro to your pet. Good try though.

Maftei, I wouldnt do that. If you get caught, you will get banned. Don't post suggestions in here that COULD get other people banned.

Why is it that Blizz is always trying to keep the MAN down? If you manage to figure out a way to do an expert pull why would they all of a sudden say no you cant do that. /ban (char name)

The reason they link mobs together is to make that particular group difficult. They want you to have a group experience killing that group (part of the MMO aspect). When you find a way to make it so you go against the design, that's a bigger issue.
