Affliction: Maximizing Raid DPSFollow

#1 May 18 2007 at 10:16 AM Rating: Decent
Been primarily solo leveling my 41/0/20 lock by drain tanking.
CoA -> Corruption -> Siphon -> UA -> Rinse & Repeat with occasional NF Shadow Bolt.

Just went to Kara for the first time and was appalled at my DPS, using a modified version of my drain tanking method. Pathetic is how I would characterize it. Part of that was tentativeness in not trying to pull aggro.

I'm guessing SB needs to move up the priority list. Seed of corruption too?

For those of you with affliction locks, how do you up your DPS for raids (Kara in particular)?
Spells and spell order would be really helpful.

Thanks!

/me looks over his sholder to make sure none of the "My way or the Highway posters are looking"

Maxamising your Damage realy depends on the rest of your raid, and the rate they do damage, if you have a slow burn raid then a UA/Bane has been established to be the higest output you can get(estabilished by the 3 guilds I raid with, that dose not mean it is the only awnser).

Yet, if the raid is realy high on the damage(lots of super well geared players) a build with SM and Ruin would likely be the Highest output(if you have the gear to support it)Due to the Boost in Burst damage.

Sometimes due to gear you will not "top" the meeters, do your best to keep things going are you are golden.

As for casting.... I never use CoA, the trash is dead before it has a chance to run, most trash also do not get my shphon life.
i use CoS or CoE(unless a lock with relevent tallents is avaiable), i open with Corruption and folow by immolate, i may tap'n Drain once but quickly swich over to SB, or incinerate(usualy SB because the bonuses i get).

Look at drain life, compare shadowbolts, shadowbolts will always be higher. Watch your threat, keep your dots on permanently, and when you're good on threat keep those shadowbolts flying. Only drain life to heal yourself, as shadowbolts have the higher dps you want.

And I really recommend DoTimer mod, its awesome. We have 4 shadow dots on 4 seperate timers, this lets me coordinate them perfectly so I never miss a dot tick, and I never apply too early (especially on CoA where the boatload of damage hits in the back).

And finally, make sure you're amplifying your curses every 2 minutes, and using your trinkets everytime the cooldown is ready. DoTimer helps with this too ;)

I agree with both the above posts. I use all 4 dots on some of the trash that live long enough however, which there is plenty. Dot timers are definitely a must. Bosses resist much more often than normal mobs, and if you aren't noticing them your damage will decrease drasticly. Additionally this helps you keep all 4 up at all times. You will find a rythem. I rarely use drain life, except maybe when i get accidentaly hit by a cave-in or something unexpected. Dots are first priority, except when a nightfall procs. While all 4 are active, you have time to spam a couple SB and life tap or dark pact. Rinse and repeat.

Good post above. Yes, on trash don't load up all 4 dots if you down them in 5 seconds. Be really careful with seed, it can pull from 2 rooms over. Shadowburn everything when its low on health, and come with plenty of shards.
