Well I was hearing everyone brag about the exp in Outland so I decided I needed to get a summon out there and go figure it out myself. So I get my summon and start roamin around. (keep in mind im only lvl 53) and I found a place with lvl 58-60 fell reavers so i figured I can kill those. so i kited one away from the group into the center of the road. and then afteer 3 FD 10 Disengauges. and 1 mend pet later it drops... 434 lousy exp. are you kidding me? all that for only 434 exp? I get more off the dragons in Burning steppes and I don't have to drop aggro so much. Did I do something wrong or something? or is the mad exp only from quests?

Well, first of all, level to 58 before even attempting to quest in Hellfire Peninsula. Seriously, the quests and packs are hard to quest at 58 unless you keep your wits sharp. I constantly pulled adds, and would have died twice as much if I wasn't BM specced with good gear.

Second of all, the XP does come mainly from the quests. The reason the mob xp is good as well, is the frequency of the fights. By gathering most or all of the quests in the area, you can pretty much kill non-stop for massive xp. And when you turn in all those quests you just finished, you will see your xp bar have fits of hysteric laughter from the massive boost you just gave it.

Go do all the Felwood and Silithus quests until you get to around level 56-57. Then you grind the rest on the Cultists in Silithus. At 58, go quest and hit 60 as if it was nothing. You will also change out your gear into greens which will be more powerful than raid epics pre-tbc.

Do set your hearth in an inn in shattrah. There are portals to all major cities on your side in the middle of hte city. Just go down elevator (don't fall).

But don't grind/exp in outlnads til 58 to 59.

I absolutely hated Silithus. I happened to run into a pack of higher level elites that ride horses, thank god for FD, but my pet died. Then getting back up with 1 level snakes by you w/o your pet kindda sucks =D

Felwood is nice, then you can hit Winterspring FTW! Last night I ended up 3 bars from 58 there (would have hit 58 but it was 2 a.m. and work in the a.m.), I started at about 56. The quest are in the main city smack dab in the middle of the area. I still have about 2 doable quest, then 2 elite quest. The roads are safe'ish, you might run by a pack of 3 lv 57? "Something... runners" is the name.

"Are we there, Yeti" is such a good quest, if you're leather working it's that much better since they're skinnable. And you get a cutsie little mini yeti to protect you for 10 mins (3 stupid charges tho :/ ) I'd rather have a long recast timer and reusable.

As much as I've wanted to hit the Outlands asap, I thought it to be a good idea to wait until lv 58 min =P but that's just me. Tonight! I will go thru the portal for the 1st time.

This isn't really exclusive to Outlands. You could have jumped to an over-leveled area early on, like Winterspring in the 40s, but even if you manage to kill something it's not worth the effort.

When people talk about "good exp" they never think in terms of a single fight -- because there are no single fights worth that much exp. It's always about how much exp you can get in a short period of time... meaning how many mobs you can kill and quests you can complete.

It may be fun to have a great one-on-one battle with a creature 15 levels above you... but it'll never be an efficient way to level.

I much prefer to wait until I’m 60 go hit Outland. The quests are much easier to do, especially with poor gear. And it’s not as if there is any shortage of quests in Azeroth to do on the road to 60.

These guys will not attack you, unless you attack them first. After skirting around them each time on my first character I learned that you can actually run right through them. At one point in a quest line you will need to kill them and take something off their blood soaked bodies. Of course, at that point they will be all but impossible to find. *smiles*

I think that is some way to affect you so you don’t go there too early and grind (since you wont get quests till 58).

At 58, you’ll get about 500-600 exp per kill, and 10,000 – 13,000 per quest turn-in. Effectively, 10 quests is about 100,000 exp plus all that you killed @ 500 a pop to finish those quests. Now tell me again, it’s bad exp in the outlands. As long as you stay around your level of mob (ie you’re not 69 killing a 60 mob to finish up quests), you’ll continue getting this kind of exp.

I did outlands with rest exp so i was getting close to 1000 a kill.

As for the scryer elevator, I’ve died from jumping off at its highest point (making me fall from a little higher up). Not sure if that’s the same effect as just walking off.

Gah! Now I find out! I got like 2 quest to do there then I'm done lol, I've been running around them, and one time I said ***** it I'm killing them so I would not have to lose my exp. per hour.

Thanks for the info tho. As Alliance in STV I happend to get blindsided by that girl tauren that walks the main road (was DEEP red to me), she did not attack me. =D Why are they red titled toons if they don't attack? Like the FP in Booty bay, the other NPC is red, and you can attack him if you wanna die, but he won't attack you.

There is a NPC at camp in U. Crater. Well same story, Red name, sword when I hover over him, well I'm thinking "I'm in a shared town he won't attack me" Wrong! he swings at me, my pet eats him up, and of course some lv70s were licking their chops waiting on me to get flagged. I never touched the NPC so never got flagged =P

Come... again...?
I have had a four digit pulse for no bloody reason then? Gawd I can remember some moments of sheer terror when you suddenly realize what is coming up behind ya. Ah well, better in Hellfire Peninsula. Those Fel Reavers are kinda sneaky up until they do that roaring thingy.

Speaking of which, I was killing the ragged moonkins for some quest. I had already killed that elite bear that roams around, so I knew he was floating around there somewhere. Well, I just shoot the final arrow to kill this moonkin, loot it, and turn around....BOOOM!!! Elite bear about 10 feet from me.

How I did not get aggro'd from that is beyond me, after I changed my drawers, I went back to killing moonkins =P

Am I the only person who seems to think that it's just the sound of metal-on-metal joints grinding? The thing is a giant enchanted machine, that has been roaming out there for god knows how long, you'd think it just needs some WD40; everyone I talk to thinks it's roaring at you or something >_>
#16 May 18 2007 at 12:21 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah, that sound is definitely something akin to massive metal stress and fatigue. But it seems to be generated at regular intervals so I guess it could be some intentional sound. It sure as hell freaks me out if I don't know it is there.
