Why o why did i roll a priest?? Follow

#1 May 16 2007 at 12:49 AM Rating: Decent
As so many others i thought shadow form was yber cool so when i got tired of my 60 Rogue ( With som Tier1 gear) i deleted him and rolled an Undead priest.
I figured i could be a Shadow nuker with ok healing wheout of shadowform.

Got BC and lvled this babe to 70 as Shadow all the way. I did good in PvP but
i felt like a broken Lock without pet and the ZOMFG 5000+ crits.
So anyway since im gonna get attuned to Khara and get the Heroic keys = alot of instace running, i thought Holy could be the way ( easy as hell to get into grps)

But who wants to be all Holy ? Bothealer ? ..i did a Disc/holy with atleast some damage output so now i suck in BG's and is an ok healer ..only ok.

This sucks! I want to be able nuke ******* *** in BG and heal good.
In my dreams right.....
If i atleast could be an awesome BG nuker in shadowform i would be happy but i guess i should have rolled a lock instead.

Isnt shadowform supposed to be able to do awesome damage ? ? or are we supposed to be broken Locks ?

Without being too mean, tough you cant.

A typical character will excel in one area, be it DPS, Healing, Support or Tanking.

Shadow priests do good DPS, excellent support, Ok healing and poor tanking.

Disc priests do OK DPS, good support, good healing and poor tanking.

That is how it is.

But in shadowform i get the feeling that we dont do that good DPS...or do we?
Is it the the huge crits we dont get?

Whats the biggest Mind Blast crit known of ? ?
Then ofc we have the sweet mind flay but since im a sucker for crits..

You're a sucker for crits, so you rolled one of the few dps classes in the entire game that doesn't ever get any crits worth mentioning (the other being the affliction lock)? Good job.

In other news, if you rolled a priest to tank, you're probably in for a surprise as well...

This is going to sound horrible, I know, but shadow priests are just warlocks without the pets for a shield. If you wanted to be a shadow priest, you should have rolled a lock. I know they're good for leveling, but look what happens once you hit 70.

Ok, seriously...what is all the ******** about? If you've got decent gear, you'll be the top DPSer in Karazhan. Your crits will be in/near the 3000 range but your DoTs will be ticking for 1000 every three seconds (back-to-back crits on MB/SW:D will be well over 5000). Not to mention everyone loves you because you're doing an *** load of off-healing and giving mana back to the party.

Your burst damage my not equal other classes, but your sustained damage will make you do the most damage over the long run...and that's what matters, right?

Well then you realize locks don't give health or mana back to the rest of the party. Oh no wait, that's what happens when you read.

Shadow priests are amazing. Stop replacing '60' with '70' in every generalization about the game, and learn what changed in the Burning Crusade.

Don't quote me unless you know what I'm thinking, thankyouverymuch. I simply meant that at 70 MOST guilds would require the priest to respec holy anyway. If the person playing said priest didn't wish to, then well .. sorry but the best thing would have been to roll a lock.

No, most guilds I know wouldn't require you to spec holy at 70 for Khara. Shadow priests are more valued than holy right now. Pallys in lots of plus heal and a shadow priest giving back mana+life is the shizz.

Spec back to shadow and dry your teary eyes.

Shadow priest is good, it just shines best in 1 v 1 fights.

I am a hunter, Zobar, can look me up on armory, and see I have good gear.

Anyway, my point is, the only guy I can't beat in a 1 V 1, was a dwarf priest named Kthuluh.

Dot,shadow resistance spell, that other spell, fear, dps spell.

being able to waste people in duels,is good enough reason to roll a class, and when all you have to do is shield, hit some instants and a DoT, then fear, then hit that dps spell, you know you rolled a good class.

Don't give up on priest !, you can do great, and you have loads of mana, just decide, do you like raiding? or PvP?

I play a Warlock (just reading this forum for tips on my new priestling) and I can't really say I sympathize much. As an Affliction Warlock, I am pretty much the same class as you are. Sure, I got my pets but I can't bubble self heal. That is the difference.

If crits is what you want, come over to the Dark Side (Warlock) and Specc Destro. If you want to heal, play a Priest and specc Holy/Disc. If you want to do DPS, play a Shadowpriest. You may not have the giant numbers popping up, but you will have ********* of medium sized numbers. I can assure you, they add up.

Our highest DPSer in Karazhan at the moment, is a Shadowpriest. And DAMN is she fun to have with us. Our healers don't mind it, since she pretty much single handedly deals with minor injuries simply by DPSing. And Warlocks LOVE her. Damn that damage boost is insane.

Trust me. You have a great class on your hands.

You rolled a priest because you don't like to heal?

You ditched your rogue because you want to own in PvP/BGs?

What was your logic there?

Totally agreed.

Come on, you have choosen a real "healing class" and are crying about DPS, nukes and so on.

Delete your priest and make a mage if you wanna nuke so much. You also may notice that your group is much more succesful in BG if you heal your members as you are supposed to be.

Orz.

Maybe stop deleting chars will help. Why on earth would someone want to delete? You should have kept the rogue.

One of my guildies is levelling up an alt. For fun, he came with me into the 59 battlegrounds. “ZOMG you’re the deadliest shadowpriest I’ve seen!” he said, many hours later. Not sure what impressed him more, breaking an 8-man turtle to return the flag in WSG or topping the damage chart by playing DOT-the-zerg in AV.

Anyway, he told our guild priest lead. Apparently we’re desperate for more shadowpriests for 70s content. Now I’m getting heavy pressure to power level and start raiding. Makes me feel bad to keep turning them down, but I’m a BG junkie.

My advice is basically the same as the others here. Shadowpriest PVP is not about huge burst damage from crits. It’s about lethal DOTs, fearbombing, fast reaction time on the Dispel button, knowing when to Silence and when to Shield, and getting the most out of your Vampiric Embrace.
