SoC or SoR ?Follow

#1 May 15 2007 at 11:43 AM Rating: Decent
Ok so I just got my little paladiness to level 20.

Being told that retribution is the easiest tree to start leveling with, that was the path I took and since it seemed nice I got Seal of Command.
Chance on hit, unreliable but I've made quite a few damn nice hits & crits with it.

So I was wondering, between Seal of Righteousness and Seal of Command, which has the best damage output ? (taking into account I usually judge SotC on my enemies of course).

It also comes to mind to ask if, as it first seems, it is a good seal to be using in PvP.

I should also note that I have barred myself from entering any BG's to avoid finding myself overrun by SS spamming rogue twinks, so I have little to no idea of how to act out as Retri on pvp scenarios.
So any advice on how to work out, specially on seals, on pvp grounds would be appreciated too.

Thank you.

Edited for punctuation, huh.

In my opinion:
SoR - PvE
SoC - PvP

You'll probably want the steady damage of SoR in PvE. SoC procs 7 times per minutes so depending on your killing speed and the actual damage from SoC, you do the maths. Calculate how many attacks you make and total up the damage from SoR and compare it to SoC damage. I still prefer playing safe so SoR for me in PvE.

For PvP, however, you will want burst damage. It's unreliable but when it happens you'll probably be able to kill your opponent before he gets a chance to react. Swing your weapon till SoC procs as the guy is nearing death. The proc takes him to really really low. Stun him for increased damage and Judge SoC. (Stunning will also prevent healing and the like)

I never understood this, can you explain it to me, cuz i have gotten 7 procs in a row. Also someone on here told me that SoC is better for heavier weapons and SoR is better for smaller ones,a nd that has worked so far.

easy math.

4sec 2H = 15 swings/min
SoC @ ~7/min = SoC about half the time at full power.

2sec 1H = 30 swings/min
SoC @ ~7/min = SoC about 1/4 the time at 1H-ed power.

i cant tell you how WoW keeps the 7/min consistent but it pretty much is.

what really pays off for SoC is the initial hit. you dont start with a 2H cooldown. so if you walk up to an enemy the 1st hit could be devastating if you get crits from Auto and SoC, then you blast with JoC and CS. a good 2H and you're talking about a 4k openner. now said enemy is on the defensive.

some people will tell you this is Theorycraft because they dont know. the truth is: i roll with a 3.8 2H, 25%crit, +1500AP, so these openners happen enough for some to cry Nerf.

IMO If you are ret, use SoC...Righteousness doesn't put enough damage out to compare with SoC. HoJ then Judge it and do it again.

We know the proc rate is 7 times per min.

(delay / 60 second) * 7 gives you the % per hit.

3.8 delay is 44% per hit.
3.0 delay is 35% per hit.
2.0 delay is 23% per hit.

At lvl 53, they are about the same solo. Command deals nearly the same DoT in most cases (till your stats are extreme post 60), but it appears in bursts, so its harder to defend against, and anticipate. This 'grouping' of dmg often makes some battles very short, but just as often causes battles to run longer.

I tend to like Command more for the big numbers. But I haven't been able to parse any significant difference in dps, so its up to you.

Thanks for the advice.

So I guess I'll go with the flow and use SoR on 1-handers and SoC on the slow 2-handers (which will be the usual pvp tool I suppose).

Thanks again !

U mentioned rougues, I just did alot of pvp at 29 and then again at 39, and I have sto say that rougues arent really your major concern just use 1 h and shield when u meet em and u prob will not have to bubble or heal just take em down, stun when they hit around 25% hp and judge soc on em throw a aoe dot on em. And youre done. ( oh I noticed that ret aura thorns and shield spike helps ALOT in these situations hehe )
