Trouble Getting Into It.Follow

Im just looking for some help. Im not even sure if this particular problem can be solved with advise or not but in my opinion its worth a shot.

In every RPG, MMO, or any other type of game where i could choose a mage, it was always my first choice. I love their style. I love their lore. I just enjoy mages thoroughly. There is only one problem that I have found with them. I cannot seem to get into playing them on World of Warcraft. Its a problem that I am faced with currently and its proving to be quite the problem

Before I purchased World of Warcraft I had read many sites about the different classes. This is something I enjoy doing even after I have purchased the games. I, of course, chose a mage. I fire specced mage to be more exact. An undead fire mage is what I chose in the end. I love playing on the Dark side or however u look at it and the Forsaken lore really appealed to me.

I purchased the game. Rolled my character. Gasped in disbelief. I lost interest in my mage. No matter what I did I could not get into the character. I dont know what my problem is. On other MMO's (FFXI, etc.) I enjoyed the play style, I enjoyed the look. On World of Warcraft it just wasnt clicking for me. This is a big problem since I love playing mages. I want to be a mage.

All that is said to ask this: Is there any advise someone could give me that would help me to better enjoy the mage class? I just need it to hold my attention so I can level one past Level 18. I would seriously like to make a mage main but I just cant seem to enjoy it for whatever reason. If anyone out there thinks they have advice for me, please reply there. Cheers.

Well, I can't really give any good advice, but maybe you should try a different spec?

Soooo, stop playing your mage, try other races. Maybe it isn't the mage, but the game you don't enjoy.

It obviously not the game I do not enjoy. Look at my signature. I have many characters who I thoroughly enjoy playing. I love World of Warcraft. I also love mages. I wish these two could come together somehow.

yeah, but they are all low lvl before you get to the fun stuff.
Mage at lvl 40 equals mass funnage.

Serevixx, like you I always chose a mage. Style, lore, mystery, flexibility: these had a natural appeal.

And my first WoW character was also, naturally, a mage. That was on a friend's account to try it out (went through about level 20) before getting my own. I now have a mage of my own, but it's my second character at the moment. My main is a druid.

I believe this game is not, fundamentally, very complicated. The game is essentially about combat, and combat is essentially about dealing and healing damage. All sorts of cool magic conceivable in the worlds of fantasy literature or the old "pen, paper, & dice" realm of role-playing games is absent. Much of this is understandable, as the unlimited possibilities of those realms of imagination can be hard to translate into a computer game engine. (Don't take this too simplistically, please, especially coming from somebody who has described polymorph and slowing effects as a mage's most important tools. But anybody tempted to list various mage abilities and say "see, look how many different things we can do!" should first read through, say, the spell list in an old AD&D Player's Handbook or GURPS Basic Set.) And so I found that WoW mages lacked that subtlety, complexity, and demand for intelligence that I sought.

For me, WoW's druids best embody what I wanted with both the variation in types of abilities and the special place in the lore. I still enjoy my mage very much.

Thanks Nate. That may explain it all. Maybe its lacking the depth Im searching for in a mage. My Shaman is my main. It has a decent amount of depth to it and best embodies my play style as of now. I was hoping that this post would help me play my mage more but it has, instead, showed me why I dont play on my mage as much as, I feel, I should. I really appreciate all of you guy's input. Thanks for helping me come to this realization.

Before you completely leave your mage, I'd suggest getting to 20 before making your final decision. For some reason, mana shield, and portals, are all really cool to me.

I agree. I tend to be kind of impatient, and being able to port to any main city at any time is just absolutely priceless. Any time I play an alt and have to trek to, say, Arathi Highlands to the flight path and fly to UC, and then Zeppelin over to Org, then fly to Felwood. The amount of time spent traveling in this game is absurd. Teleporting eliminates a large chunk of that.

I looked at your signature and the one thing I saw that was lacking was an Alliance character. Perhaps if you try them for a while it'll go some way to stemming the inertia you've encountered with your mage.

get to 20 the game completely changes and at 40 thats when it gets even more fun and of course at 60 its fun playing with your spec.

Okay okay. I have to admit, Blink and Portals will the awesome when im 20. Also, I have tried various alliance characters and I dont really like it. I enjoy horde and I'll most likely always stick to them. Its too much of a 'start over' when going alliance. If I'm ever sitting on a 70 character and just get bored I might go ahead and roll and alliance toon. Until then, For The Horde!

ehhhhh i think both horde and alliance pretty much have the same amount of interesting lore but honestly i think the horde has much more mature players alliance on my server i usually get bad pugs to except last night when i ran Ramparts and Blood Furnace than i got godly players who had experiance heroic versions of both places on their 70 mains it was fun i didnt get one drop but i got two outland blues from quests. Horde i grouped with once for wailing caverns it was pretty good got through it in less than an hour.
