I'ma lvl 70 Hunter and never pvp but was wondering what is the best shot choice to be effective at kiting and is there a particular order for doing so.Never kited and if I have didn't know I was doing it.

I'm not 100% sure what you're asking. Kiting is using conc shot, frost trap or especially wing clip to slow your target.

You then move out to range and strafe-circle, shooting on the run. Keep stings active - use arcane shot for damage - and pet. If he stops to fight pet (some players do), stop and autoshoot.

Or there is jump or spin shooting, where you run away from target but jump/spin shoot to apply stings and arcane shots as needed. You can do this one w/out slowing target as much - although an occasional concus. shot helps.

I watched a video where a lvl 34 hunter kited a lvl 60 Elite and killed it. What this person said about dragging into traps and what not is not what kiting is. kiting is the act of keeping damage on a mob so it will continue to follow you even after you have drug it out of its normal attack area. so for hunters the best way to kite is (if i remember right) serpent sting (Poison DoT) and arc shot. if the mob gets to close to you shoot a conc to get further away. your trying to keep the mob at the furthest point of your attack range. jump shot will help you pull that off. If you want to see how well you are. try it with a n00b char in a starting zone. take a random mob from say starting village to the next village your suppose to go. this will help you practice the jump shot. where you jump swing your mouse to one direction to give you a 360 degree turn. and when you are facing backwards you hit one of your quick buttons for the appropriate attack. That is how you kite. I have only messed with the kite with my lvl 6 druid and moonfire cause I am not good at the 360 part yet. still land like in a wierd direction. plz note you will need to use your mouse for that. Also note that your pet will either be dismissed or on passive during this event. cause if it is not your kite is failed. mainly used for killing mobs way higher lvl than you are.

Think of kiting like... flying a kite. you are obviously the person in the deal. your mob is your kite. and your damage on the mob is your string that holds it to you. if you let it go for very long out of its area without any damage on it... the mob will reset... just like if you had let go of the string on your kite... it will fly back a bit and fall down somewhere...

i thought kiting was also as described by the OP, as well as making it follow you somewhere.

but you don't need to take it anywhere, you just want to kill it without it getting close to you. eg, in pvp or pve. for that case, the concussion shot, wing clip, or frost trap all work fine.

as a hunter, i'm snared so often by warriors and rogue abilities that it's a great satisfaction to snare them a bit and just whittle them down on their HP.

Hitash clearly knows what he's doing when kiting, but I'd like to give another suggestion to the OP. Hitash recommends a full 360 turn, shooting at the 180 point. I personally prefer turning a little over 90 degrees in either direction, firing, then turning back forward. This makes me feel safer that I will land back in the same direction I was running since there is less turning involved.

Of course, this is all a matter of preference. Both ways lead to the same effect. Go ***** around with it and see what you're comfortable with.

Kiting is simply the act of attacking an enemy at range without being hit: it may involve running away from the target and jump-shotting/strafing (like Winterspring Demon), running in circles around a frost trapped target (just like kiting the Silithus demon), using terrain (not terrain exploits), wingclipping then running to range or a combination of all these. Kiting is not merely taking a mob from one place to another.

In PVP it is difficult to kite a player point to point while killing them because if you are successful and are damaging them too much they will disengage. The most likely kite in PVP is around a frost trap or using terrain. I know you haven't PVP'd but an example of a terrain kite is the path leading to your roof in WSG - drop a frost trap as you're running around the corner, turn left and head to the roof, once the enemy is through the trap you drop down to the path below and repeat and hopefully they follow you until you have killed them.

There are certain techniques that will aid kiting like jump shot and strafe - the 180 degree jump shot is better because you really only need to turn a little over 90 degrees and then back (turning up mouse sensitivity helps with the quick action required). Taking guards from Tarren Mill to Southshore is a good way to practice or at lvl 70 you could take named elites in Nagrand to the town (you will need Aspect of the Cheetah).

There is no need to have your pet away or on passive in a PVE kite(in PVP they will be largely ignored), just not growling. If you make the initial attack with an aimed shot and then sting you should be able to keep aggro the whole kite.

Now, you are ready. Go kite the wandering fel reaver into honor hold, have the guard dudes attack him, feign death, AND MURDER ALL OF HONOR HOLD. Im serious, it works and its fun. All of the honor hold guards will be killed =). Nothing like killing your own faction npc's.
