Details... in how many post must I say this...

Tell me, do you PvP, PvE, instance, etc? Do you have any focus talents like GftT or Bestial Discipline? Details, details, details!

Details to include about your cat:

1. What are the possible setups you may have for the 4 active skills?
2. Is this pet for PvP, Solo, or Instancing?
3. Are you on a PvP server?
4. Do you GFtT or BD (talents)?
5. Are you going to put both on, and just keep one active, or are you asking which to put on?

Claw. It maximizes the use of Focus (don't worry about leaving it on auto-cast, it saves enough Focus for your Growl).

With Bite on a 10 second cooldown your pet will regenerate the Focus it costs twice over, or faster, if you have Bestial Discipline or Go for the Throat.

My kitty has Claw on always and she shreds through mobs as well as players. I'd only advice against using Claw if you're fighting something with a damage shield, like the Helboars in Outland (they do damage on every hit).

I appreciate the imput and yes I should have provided more details.
I have one training slot left for my cat I can train in bite or claw.
I am on PVP doing quest and battle ground. As i dont have anyone in my guild at my lvl i find it tough to do dungons.

Im trying to figure out how to get the best bang having almost maxed out in BM.
I find most people to be very helpfull and was hoping for some honest advice based on experience. We all can't be super stars so i would realy appreciate it if the sarcasm is kept in check.

It's not so much sarcasm as simple frustration.

Any "what is the best" question tends to bring that out. The "best" depends on a lot of factors.

The simplest way to put it for you, though, is this: Claw if you have Bestial Discipline, Bite if you don't.

I'm going to assume you have growl, prowl, and dash then for the other 3 (if you have cower, get rid of it, as it serves almost no purpose...if your pet can hold aggro w/o growl, it should be the MT). If you have BD, for short fights claw should be good. But for long fights...keep this in mind:
Focus regen is 25 every 2 seconds, if you have BD. GCD is 1.5 seconds, and I believe growl is not on the GCD. So 25 focus gone every 1.5 seconds, 25 focus gained every 2 seconds, and 15 more focus gone every 5 seconds, after a while your pet will be OOF. 12-16 seconds, in fact, depending on your timing.

I'd reccomend bite. It may not have as much DPS, but in long fights with multiple adds, you won't run out of focus.

(Math in Italics), assuming you start exactly when it regens. Otherwise the waiting will burn CD's, which will burn focus faster. * = will have to wait.
Time = 0, 100 - 25 (claw) + 25 (regen) - 15 (growl) = 85 focus.
Time = 1.5, 85 - 25 (claw) = 60 focus.
Time = 2, 60 + 25 (regen) = 85 focus.
Time = 3, 85 - 25 (claw) = 60 focus.
Time = 4, 60 + 25 (regen) = 85 focus.
Time = 4.5, 85 - 25 (claw) = 60 focus.
Time = 5, 85 - 15 (growl) = 45 focus.
Time = 6, 45 - 25 (claw) + 25 (regen) = 45 focus.
Time = 7.5, 45 - 25 (claw) = 20 focus.
Time = 8, 20 + 25 (regen) = 45 focus.
Time = 9, 20 - 25 (claw) = 20 focus.
Time = 10, 20 - 15 (growl) + 25 (regen) = 30 focus.
Time = 10.5, 30 - 25 (claw) = 5 focus.*
Time = 12, 5 - 25 (claw) + 25 (regen) = 30 focus.
Time = 13.5, 30 - 25 (claw) = 5 focus.
Time = 14, 5 + 25 (regen) = 30 focus.
Time = 15, 30 - 15 (growl) = 15 focus.*
Time = 16, 15 - 25 (claw) + 25 (regen) = 15 focus.*
Time = 17.5, wait for claw.

Skribs... you know I don't understand WoW math... I came to this game to get away, not be a hard-core number cruncher. Mind explaining that in English?

But if this cat if only for PvP... You probaly already have Growl, Prowl, and Dash. If you only do PvP, just get Prowl, Claw, Dash, and Bite.

Now, let me explain the pros and cons of each of the 5 abilities you use.

Growl: If you solo with your cat, you must have this. If you do only PvP with your Cat, don't get this, simple as that. For PvE parties, if you group with someone who usally holds aggro often [warrior, paladian, druid] you might not need this. For PvE parties with only non-tank classes, this is good to have.

Dash: This is excellent for PvP and PvE. Great for catching mob or player runners. It also makes grinding/farming much easier since you get to the mob faster. Likewise for PvP, every second counts, so the faster you get to the other player is a less-likely chance for you to die.

Prowl: For NE it's great for ganking. Not as much for other's, but still very useful. For PvE it's ok. Good for hiding while regaining HP/Mana. Or if you're like me you can combine it with dash to get a hard first hit and a decent speed [I'm not sure about the number's, ask skribs.]

Bite: Good for PvP and PvE. Generally prefered over claw for PvE but under claw for PvP. This is because it is more focus-efficient than claw, but has a cooldown. This makes it so it doesn't take all the focus needed for growl, but you can't do the amount of burst damage you can do with claw because of the CD.

Claw: Like bite, ok for PvE and good for PvP. I don't like it because even with the focus talents it uses up too much focus, making it hard to use growl. For PvP, this is very different. PvP you get mass amounts of burst damage and with the focus regaining talents even more. This is also very good interrupting casters. As we all know, burst damage and interrupting casters is king in PvP.

In short, since you seem to do PvP more, I reccomend claw. But you can always take out growl and do Dash, Prowl, Bite, and Claw. Or you can take away Prowl and go Growl, Dash, Bite, and Claw.

Btw, some of you may be wondering why I am working with him even though he included very little detail. It is that he TRIED.

The OP put an effort into detail after he read my reply, some of you must learn from this. Although it was not what I was hoping for, he tried, and I was able to work with it.

Remember though, the armory is your friend and can anwser almost all our questions.

Lol arthas, the example of "trying" wont work...b/c most of the people who dont try dont read the other posts anyway. Although it's a good explanation for why you answered...it's not a good example to those who truly need to know how to ask a question (of course...there isn't one. you just have to push em every time for more detail).

Kudos for effort though, and the stuff you wrote is good. Sorry if I get a little too far into the math, but I speak math better than I speak English.

I agree with arthias. If you plan on PVE more than pvp go with bite. I am training a cat up to my lvl so i can have bite and claw for pvp. :)

i would like to mention some food for thoughts though.
if you want your pet to have maximum damage, cat is not the way to go. better said (if skribs did his math right, wich i expect him to) cats are in 4th place.

Actually, they're in at LEAST 4th place. I'm not sure how boars compare (lower DPS but gore instead of claw makes up for it). But the garunteed 1st through 3rd:
1st - Scorpids
2nd - Wind Serpents
3rd - Ravagers
