ghostly strikeFollow

Im a lvl 26 rogue, and im 17 points into sub. The question is: Is ghostly strike worth the point? I know its cheaper than SS, and the +dodge is nice(the cooldown does suck tho).

Also any gear suggestions (that I don't have to kill myself trying to get) because, Im mainly just trying to grind up, but I like to hit a few BG's here and there.

However, Ghostly Strike is an odd talent. It's sort of similar to Evasion, but on much smaller scale and more often. I'd take it. It's not useful enough to put it in an action bar slot, but a macro (no, I'll never stop plugging these, almost halved my action bar size) is a lifesaver:

/castsequence reset=20 Ghostly Strike, Sinister Strike, Sinister Strike, Sinister Strike, Sinister Strike, Sinister
Strike, Sinister Strike, Sinister Strike, Sinister Strike

Paste that into your macro interface (CTRL+V) and slap it where your Sinister Strike used to be. If you use SS as often as me, you'll like it.

Also, on an aside, Ghostly Strike may deal more damage than a Sinister Strike if you've got exceptional weapons and/or an old rank of Sinister Strike.

Being as you'd like to hit some battlegrounds, try and save up AB marks for the 38 Rogue boots. There are better boots out there for Agility at that level, but the Stamina is nice (+100HP?) and the movement speed is quite noticable over time, (I had to keep stopping while boosting someone in an instance :P)

Otherwise, if you've got some cash, hit the Auction House every few levels and see if anything catches your eye.

Wow thanks for the macro help. Anyone know of any other good macros(or a link to learn about writing your own)? I am just getting a good grasp of the macro thing, and I like it. Well I picked up the ghostly strike, and I like it. I also just hit lvl 27, and I put my first point into master of deception.

I probably won't be hitting here in a while, leaving my Rogue and beggining a Warlock, but consider this a parting gift:

/cast [combat] Vanish
/cast [nocombat] Stealth

Short but sweet, press it normally it'll stealth you, press it in battle and you'll get Vanish. I can't remember what level you get Vanish, but you'll love it :P

And, some pages which taught me all I know:

How to make a Macro
Various commands
Rogue Macros

Have a look around and you'll see the last one is where I got the Ghostly macro from.

Reason why that Stealth macro sucks in PvP, you can't mash steath for a gouge re-stealth. Nice idea but I prefer keeping my gouge-stealth.

And yes you have to mash it, timing it with server lag is just unreliable.

I'm pretty hot with my timing, have 3/3 Improved Gouge and start backpedalling before I Gouge. I have .5 seconds lead over my enemy, and he's gonna be suffering the lag as well, at the least in which to hit it, and depending on the enemy I'll usually get more. Plus, I always have the extra button up top that I mash, that helps. My ping is usually pretty good as well.

I'm probably going to start up a Subtlety rogue for PvP sometime soon, so I'll be sticking around these forums.

What would the macro be to quickly get off my mount and stealth?

My god I need that. lol

if no one answers by the time i get home ill post mine, it works great, esp with flying mount once you know the safe height you can dismount from without dmg.

/cast [nomounted, nostealth] Stealth; [nomounted] Cheap Shot
/use [mounted] Swift White Steed

Basically, if you are not mounted and not stealthed, it will put you into stealth, and cheap shot the target. Change "Swift White Steed" to whatever mount you use atm.

I've had GS on my rogue since a level 60 respec (level 65 now but was 60 for over a year; I took six months off too). I think it's very nice, the trick to maximize it's use is timing it. You can hit it right as CS ends, run its duration, then KS. Or if you gouge an enemy, back off wait for energy regen, and hit it as soon as they get to you.

I guess it synergizes well with Setup too (15/30/45% to add combo point on dodge or spell resist), but I only have one point in that and may respec out of it entirely. Reason is I don't much care for unpredictable combo points and find myself "waiting" at 3 or 4 points in the hopes that a Setup point will proc. Sometimes that's counterproductive.

Also good vs. elites when combined with evasion, as they do sometimes whack you through it and that sucks.

Not good for pvp except sometimes vs. other rogues. Or I dunno, if you're alone against a pet or something for some reason.

As for the /vanish /stealth macro, I find situations where I'm not in combat but would prefer a vanish: If rezzing near a camper/s, and you're not planning on engaging, the improved stealth may allow you to go unnoticed even if they see you (if no aoe class). And to get rid of various movement-impairments in various pvp and pve situations. And to get rid of a hunter's mark quicker.
