How well can a mage solo from 1-70?Follow

Mage is the only class I've never taken a serious shot at playing past 14, and was also the second class I ever played in this game over a year ago (hence I was very bad at it, lol). I was wondering how well a mage can make it to 70 pretty much on their own, generally using an Arcane spec. Especialy with things like elite quests, as I have never seen a mage who could take a hit without getting squashed by an elite (note that I have just never seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen).

I've tried Warlock, got it to 22, got bored with constantly having to re-apply dots. That, and despite what people said on the Warlock forum, it really did just feel like a Hunter with a fetish for cutting himself.

Tried two priests also, one balance and one shadow, got them both to about 26 before starting to lose interest (although I may experiment with a priest again, but I'm just not sure about their abilities in general. They seem to suck mana like nobodies business and don't get nearly the damage a mage can, unless I really messed something up there).

Anyway, any advice would be appreciated. I kinda want to see where mage takes me, but I could definately use some idea as to how well they can survive in solo situations.

Mages solo just fine to 70.

However, if it seems like you're OOM a lot early on, that passes as you start picking up some Int and good talents.

Elite quests are usually group quests, so soloing them is questionable; however, mage can handle themselves rather well against most mobs. IF you want greater survivability, go frost tree or combine that with arcane.

Also, I like holy priests that starts by maxing wand and using them as their main attack. This strategy gives High DPS and keeps you with plenty of mana to heal, shield and fear while fighting.

Locks are still the masters of PvP and they do impressive job in grinding and soloing

I seem to remember a comment from Pol... if you are frost and the elite is snareable, then you could solo it naked. The only thing is that you must have some space to kite with. I'm leveling a frost mage now so I can get better at kiting.

When my mage was 40, I soloed a 43 elite. At 54 I soloed a 56 elite. Soloing elite mobs isn't hard, it just usually requires knowing how to kite, and the fact that you'll probably have downtime afterwards. The Water Elemental makes that easier at 50. Yes Mages can solo fine in otherwords. All the way to 70

Mage is definitely a fun class. Feel free to ask any other questions.

Basically.

If it's snareable, you can rank 1 frostbolt it to death, meaning you may take forever, but a naked kill is possible.

I have a lvl 34 mage that specs in fire and does just fine questing by himself. I can take on 30 elites just fine.

Personally, I've only leveled a Mage and Hunter past level 60. I've had various alts -- Rogues and Warriors mostly -- that have gotten to around level 30. From my past experience, I'd say that Hunter is definitely the easiest to solo with, but I still enjoy playing my Mage more. We have so much utility -- Water, Food, Portals/Teleports -- that make playing a Mage very easy IMO.
