Bottom line, if you're a rogue you should have pickpocket macros set up to auto pickpocket before you do a stealth attack. Here's how to set it up...
Make a list of your stealth attacks (i.e. Backstab, Cheap Shot, Garrote, Ambush, Ghostly Strike, etc.) on a piece of paper.Go into the Macros creation window and select the tab for your character so you're not cluttering the main macro area.Create a macro and call it something obvious, like Ambush. Pick the icon that matches the attack so you don't have to get used to a new icon.Create a macro for each stealth attack follows:
/cast pick pocket
/stopcasting
/cast <attack name>
Attack name would be the name of the stealth attack you want to use. For instance, /cast Ambush would cast the Ambush attack. Note that most two-word attack names are separated by a space; ex: /cast Cheap Shot.
Go into Interface Options and set yourself up for Auto Loot (upper right of window) so your pickpockets automatically go to your inventory.Go into stealth mode. Replace the existing stealth attacks with the macros by dragging them to your actionbar.
You will now pickpocket a mob before your stealth attack hits. You'll find this keeps your lockpicking skill up (by picking the junkboxes you loot) and it keeps you stocked with blinding powder, which would otherwise be very expensive. The extra money you make from pickpocketing will be evident over time. You're literally getting twice the loot money you normally would otherwise.
Happy hunting.
