Thinkin about making a shamanFollow

#1 May 10 2007 at 6:15 PM Rating: Decent
Hey everyone, for a while now i have been swapping around to different classes and pretty much blowing a ton of money on them thinkning they will be my main. But none of them stuck really, so I'm thinking about making a shaman, mainly because they look like they have great power in magic and combat. But I would like some input first, I noticed it said they run out of mana fast, but I've never seen that happen really, is it true?? It also said that they cant effect anything from like 20yds, is this because they need to use melee and magic? or that their spells arent ranged?
i just want to know some extra pros and cons of shamans, and what your game will be like if you decide to be one.

Please just reply to this or email me at enderbattle@aol.com,
Thanks!

Not true at all. Use decent gear and your fine. Use Rank 1 spells just for effect. Like earthshock rank 1, just for casting stun.

20 yards is a long range.... Especially for instant shocks. But not true for Bolts. Those are 30 yards.

A few Pros.

Burst Damage
Shock spells
Totems!
Purge
Lowbie travel form

A few Cons

Face to face fighter/caster with out plate.
The ladies like blonde pallies.
A lot of Ally don't know how to play with Shaman.
HL PvP armor sets kinda suck ( but most class's do )
No plate
Have to pay for mounts

All in all it's nice. Trolls can be Shaman too.

Altholism. I feel your pain.

In all seriousness give them a go and I'm sure you'll enjoy the class. Once you grasp that you're not a Warrior or a Mage but a little bit of both you can really start to enjoy being a Shaman.

IMHO they offer a great variety of gameplay with your magic and melee abilities coupled with your totems. Unfortunately being OOM is just something you have to get used too.

As someone who pondered the very same decision you're having, jump straight in, my friend! I've flirted with all classes, gotten a rogue and warrior pretty high, coming to terms with my mage, just couldn't agree with my paladin and ended up with a shaman. I'm actually having fun at level 8, didn't think that was possible. Of course, I know I can't make the mistakes I make when I'm learning the ropes and having heaps of fun while doing so for much longer (example, putting down an Earth Bind totem and jumping around like a lunatic, getting enough space for an uninterrupted cast, agroing everything in about a 30-yard radius) . I like the mix of casting & melee, and kinda enjoy the support-role, and the breadth of stuff you can throw down seems to make for a lot of fun. i grouped with a 70 shaman around a level 70 instance, and there was a lot more going on with her than just my simple rogue repertoire. Enjoy the shamaning around!
