Rogue Looking for Advice/OpinionsFollow

#1 May 10 2007 at 8:17 AM Rating: Decent
Need a little advice. I have read how subtlety specs just wont cut it in raid groups and I am beginning to believe it :(
I have a 70 Rogue Shadow Step and I used to top the dmg meters in all 5-mans, but now that is beginning to change. Mages & Warlocks are killing me.
I am thinking about changing spec to either Mutilate or Combat Daggers and I was wanting some advice on which is better. I really don't wan't to spec to Combat Swords/maces/Fists as I don't have any good weapons and would have to spend time upping my skill in them. (Unless they are just that much better)
Here is my armory page, and I am currently working on gearing up for KZ, etc.
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/?#character-sheet.xml?r=Korialstrasz&n=Creepindeath

These are the builds I have been playing around with. Please give your critiques on them. (These are based on Rogues having Imp Sap Trainable after next patch)

MUTILATE

COMBAT SWORDS/MACES/FISTS (The only thing changing would be the specialization)
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=wheboxZGcVbdVzxMrot

COMBAT DAGGERS
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=i0ecohZGcVbbEz0MrotV

Tear it down, rip it apart, do whatever just give me some opinions on how what you think is better and why.

Thanks

Mages and locks can outdamage because of AoE's. I wouldn't feel too bad about that. Subtlety is more of a PvP build because of stun locking and maximizing your energy with cheaper Cheap Shot and Hemo. I run Subtlety in instances still, but will probably have to re-spec when I get accepted to a new guild. Subtlety works well with a sword main hand and a dagger offhand. Put a high damage sword in the main hand to maximized damage from Hemo. The dagger is for Ambush and quick damage/poisons (and I can't find an OH sword better than Guile of Khoraazi for a Sub spec). I only Ambush on a boss. There are a couple macros out there that that switch your MH and OH weapons when you enter and leave stealth, but it has a slight delay before your next hit out of stealth as the weapons switch. I turn it off when grinding and killing trash. Since I don't use Ambush that much and because Cold Blood rocks, I go 21/0/40. The Assassins set is perfect for a Subtlety build because of the speed bonus after a Cheap Shot and a Kidney Shot, and then Eviscerate is 10 energy cheaper. You can solo cloths in mid-lvl instances. Cheap Shot, hemo til 5 CP, Kidney Shot, hemo til 5 CP, Cold Blood and then Eviscerate. If you get an extra CP from the Eviscerate, SnD. Dead. If you have one other helping you, the mob is dead on the Eviscerate. I use Felsteel Longblade (just got it. Expensive as hell, but well worth it so far) MH and Guile of Khoraazi OH. +15 agil on Longblade and Mongoose on the Guile. Usually you want proc enchants on the MH, but the Longblade is 2.2 sec per swing so I went against the grain. Seems to work fine.

If you are going Subtlety, you should select pieces that maximize your bonuses from Deadliness and Sinister Calling. Go for more Agility. At 70 it's 29 Agility per 1% crit, 14 Agility per 1% dodge. 1 Agility per 1 AP. If you maximize you items for hit rating and Agility, you can have 700-800 Agility after the 15% Sinister Calling bonus. Then you get 10% AP on top of the Agility AP from Deadliness.

Mutilate builds are better on bosses and upper lvl mobs that have much higher armor and health, but before you get to high lvl raiding, subtley is still viable, but you have to armor yourself to compliment it. Plus, when you PvP, Sub is the way to go.

Watch the posts start to disagree with me.

I'd change a few talents around for each spec.

Mut: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=wheoogroidVoGcVb0V

Combat swords: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=wheboxZGcVbRVzxMuot

Combat daggers: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=f0ecohZ0eVbrEz0M0RtV

The reason that Mages/Locks are killing you is because you're specced lolstep. Lolstep is great for PvP (though 30/0/31 is better burst damage), but it sucks horribly for sustained DPS.

Combat daggers will serve you well, though Mut will probably be better in PvP.

I completely understand your problem with the Sub spec in raids. (i had the same problem) so as i did, I got sick of it and tried EVERYTHING right now im combat daggers and its fine but i think going 41/20/0 for the OH wep dmg Increase would help ALOT and make sure you go Imp Gouge because the mutilate DEFFINETLY adds up like a mother. also, in assasination make sure you get the 9% dmg increase to the Incapacitated Target.

Hope that helps, Worked for me.
