Weapon SkillFollow

I've always thought that when shifted, your weapon skill is whatever item you have equipped, but I just read in another thread that there is an invisible weapon skill that's always maxed when shapeshifted. Is this true? Because if it is, it would save me alot of time :)

there is.

wayyyyyyy back in the days of beta and early retail, leveling up would result in seeing what stats were increased (just like it does now) only in addition to str and stam and all that, it showed your class "skills" as well. for every level you attained, you gained 5 levels in each of your class "skills". for a druid, these skills were restoration, balance, and feral combat.

the feral combat skill is the one that determines all the melee stuff that happens in feral forms, and it is always maxed at 5*(level), 350 @ lvl 70.

yes this is true...only when you ae in moonkin and tree of life form do you use your actuall equiped weapon, but while you are in bear and cat form your weapon skill lvl has nothing to do with how much you will hit

So, if you can train in weapons what is the best/most common weapon for druids to use? I have a staff because when I rolled a Druid I did not know I had other options. What do I have to choose from for Weapons for Druid? May sound silly but I have only been playing WoW for 2 months or so. ANy help would be great. Thanks.

From the sticky:

Weapons training
While you are doing all this running around the world you should drop in to visit your weapon trainers. You will start off with a couple skills already known but Druids are able to learn the use of fist weapons, staves, daggers, maces, and two handed maces.
...
Horde will want to visit Ansekhwa in Thunderbluff and Sayoc in Orgrimmar.
Alliance should see Buliwyf Stonehand in IronForge and Bixi Wobblebonk right next to him.

Train in all of them.
Each one skills up faster when they are very low so catching each is easy. It only slows down within ten points of the max skill for your level.

As for what to equip, just use the item you find with the best stats. You can pretty much ignore damage and speed.

I'd say what weapon to have depends on what druid you have. I'm using a feral specced druid and so for me, staves are generally less useful than a big 2hand mace. I do however have a decent +int +spr staff in my bank along with other gear of that genre for when I am acting as a healer in a group.

Generally its easier to get +str +agl +stm combinations with maces whereas with staves it's generally easier to get +int +spr +healing combi's. Just depends if you are feral, moonkin, or resto really.

Also, with reference to leveling up your weapon skills I would reccomend going into RFC if you are horde, just find a crappy weapon with the fastest attack speed you can. (It saves time as you strike more often, hence increasing your skill faster).

Hope that helps.

In BC, there are many staves with hundreds of feral attack power on them. You will probably end up using staves & 2h maces most, although there are also some nice healing daggers & 1h maces.

Make sure you have paid for training in all of them (so you can use the weapons), but you don't really need to grind the skills up. It is rare that you will be using them anyway. You are either in cat or bear or you are casting.
