Deep combat worth it?Follow

On my first rogue I picked up combat while grinding. Once I got adrenaline rush, I started popping points into the juicy early assa talents.

Now I started another rogue, and he's combat as well. But is it worth it getting combat potency and the lvl 41 combat talent, compared to investing points in assa tree?

This is meant for pure quest-grinding pve, so that's all that needs to be taken into consideration.

Combat potency would seem imba with a fast off-hand, but maybe it just looks nice, and is worth crap? It has to compete with +5% crit in the assa tree, so what would be the wiser choice?

Personally.. I'd go with finishing up Combat and getting Surprise Attacks first. Easiest answer though is.. just pick up either one you want first, but go ahead and get both when you're able. You can't really go wrong either way.

To my great chagrin, higher ranks of combat potency increase the amount of energy returned, not the chance to return it (could you imagine 3 energy every time your offhand hit?).

However, it is an awesome ability. Grab the fastest offhand that you can find, and just watch the energy build. That talent rocks. Hardcore.

Ya, except that a 20% chance to return 15 energy is really the same as a 100% chance to return 3 energy...

0.2 x 15 = 3
1.0 x 3 = 3

Theorhetically, in a fight lasting a long enough time (read: infinity), the effect will be the same. However, in fights that are shorter (how many fights last longer than a minute, honestly?), I'd rather have a 100% steady return of 3 energy than a 20% chance to return 15 energy.

Besides, it's a 20% chance. That doesn't mean that it will proc every fifth hit.

I will go with Combat Potency and see how I like it. If it sucks for me, I can always respec and put the points in assa instead.

Thanks for the replies :)
