Depends on the meter used I guess - on ones I've seen, it doesn't.

Yes and no. Some meters will include your pet as a seperate member, some meters will add your damage and your pets damage, some meters will simply include you. Also consider that some meters show the damage only of members within certain yards, so if you're shooting from 41 yards the tank might not get you on his damage meter.

That said: the amount of damage you deal is more important than the amount of damage on the meter. And, you need to do more than just deal damage.

Depends on the damage meter, and I know with SW Stats there's an option to either display your pet's damage seperately or to add it in with yours.

The only thing damage meters do is give people bigger e-peens. What most don't realize is that a good hunter's DPS may lack due to CC. You have to look at the whole, not at the single. I don't blame a priest for only having maybe 10K damage on the charts because all they were doing was placing a dot and healing the rest of the time. Nor would I blame another hunter for being lower on the charts due to their CC.

Would you blame a rogue for being lower on the charts because they would only DPS the boss half the time? The other half they would have to bandage due to AE. Or a mage who gets one-shotted, and is now out of the fight?

As long as the group completes the task at hand with minimal risk involved that's the most important thing imo.

If used properly I think they could help. i.e. 2 rogues wind up with a 5% difference in damage, with same build and items, the one could tell the other how to up his dps. if they're just there for DPS, then they *should* be fairly close, but if they're not it could help him improve.

while DPS isn't the only thing, it is really important. I remember 3-manning VC (we were appropriate level) with a priest, druid, and rogue. I, the rogue, simply lacked the DPS of 3 people, and it made it very hard because the priest would go OOM. so while DPS may contribute to epeen, it also contributes to the group.

DPS meters should be hidden until the end of a dungeon run. This helps prevent you from trying to push your damage to beat somebody else. You can compare stats at the end.

That said... with DamageMeters, you can toggle an option that will include pet damage with your own. Do not do this. This gives skewed results, because it only does that with your pet and your damage.. not any other player with a pet.

The most accurate thing I've seen with DamageMeters is to deselect "Show Party Members Only" and extend the combat recording range. Without "Show Party Members Only" selected, the meter will show all pets as separate entries.
