I was wondering what everyone's opinion on Viper Sting vs. Serpent Sting in the BG's. Oftentimes I use VS on priests and mages who have low mana already. However, I am always wondering whether or not I would be better off with Serpent Sting causing extra dmg. Just wondering everyone's opinion.

well seeing how a mage or preist is basically dead without mana draining thier mana makes fights very easy. Esspecially for preists where i don't see the little extra bit of damage from serpent having any large effect on thier ability to cure themselves back from it.

I think it depends...

Priests can heal themselves, and if they don't have mana, their life goes down fast.
Warlocks can regenerate their mana by sacrificing HP, so taking away their HP will be more effective than taking away their mana.
Mages are trickey. They can't heal themselves, nor can they instantly replenish their mana, but they can deal out huge amounts of damage. I'd say serpent them, since they'll usually have plenty of mana left after a viper sting.

I think 5 times before I use Serpent Sting. Mainly coz it breaks Freezing Trap. I usually use Viper or Scorpid Sting. Viper is absolutly ace vs. pallies and shammies. Ok vs. hunters too. However mages, locks (won't Life Tap much in PvP without it being a very special occation) and priests have so much mana it's not very effective to drop a Viper Sting. I tend to do so anyway though.

Viper Sting will break Freeze Trap, too. I put that to a test one time, thinking it'd be a great way to assure some mana drain.

Personally, with the cooldown added, I haven't been using Viper Sting nearly as much. It used to be that you could fire another one immediately if the target cured it, but not anymore.

Before that, I found it most useful against paladins. For stings, though, I typically use Scorpid if they're melee, or Serpent for casters.
