Survivalist vs. Survival InstinctsFollow

I've been playing with a SV build. I'm not quite geared for it yet, so this is more of a mental exercise right now. But I did recently respc and picked up 9 more points in SV, to add to the 3/3 Hawk Eye I had previously. So there's some synergy to a respec, since it makes my existing 12 points essentially "free" as far as accessing the higher Tiers of Talents goes.

The build has some flexibility, and I could spend 2 points in either of Survivalist or Survival Instincts. What I'm having a hard time figuring out is, which is better? With 7348 Health, and something like 9k raid buffed, a point in Survivalist will give me 180 Health. A point in Survival Instincts will reduce a hit for 2000 points by a mere 40 damage, but it'll do that every time I'm hit, and over the course of a raid that could add up to a lot more than 180 damage prevented.

I can't buy both with my hypothetical build. So to the SV Hunters out there I have a practical question and a theoretical one. Which did you chose (if you didn't chose both), and why? And if you could only have 2 points in one of these two Talents, which would you select?

after the patch, survival instincts will also add 2/4% extra attack power.
so the choice is obvious to me ;)

Even now I would choose survival instincts over survivalist. -4% damage taken is better than +4% health if you do the math. For example, -50% damage will make you last twice as long, but +50% health will make you last one and a half times as long. The same principle applies to your two talent points but just to a smaller difference.
But yea, really excited about that changes next path, whenver it comes...

Also, if a guy has 1000 damage, and takes 100 damage on hit, then he could upgrade to 1040 damage or to 96 damage on hit. After 10 hits the healer will have to heal him 1000 damage on one, 960 on the other. It makes it easier on the healer if you go through less health.

This is also why SOME hunters prefer nat armor to greater stamina. It is also why damage mitigation is an important part of tanking.
