How?

I seem to have the most trouble dealing with locks/shadow priests. If they get off a fear, then they just dot me and even if I take them down, I die from the dots.

Is this just something that I need to learn to live with, or is there some way to counteract them?

You can counteract them in two ways: kill them quickly, or keep em stunlocked. Unless, of course, it's a lock with a felhunter, in which case you've just got to live with it.

Your level would help, at 66 rogues gain Cloak of Shadows which will significantly help you against warlocks and shadowpriests.

Advice:

When you're stunlocking locks/shadow priests, use cloak as soon as stun lock ends.

Alot of them have fear on a "twitch" reflex and will throw it off immediately. You'll more than likely resist, and basically ***** them. After the cloak ends you can gouge and restealth (on shadow priests) or gouge and mutilate the warlock. Either class should die soon after (shadow priests take longer to kill than locks imo, they're far too bad *** for their own good).

Alternately, you could wait until you're around level 50 and head to Searing Gorge to pick up [wowitem=19141]this little number[/wowitem].

Edit: Of course, that won't help you against shadow priests or warlocks, but getting the jump on the other guy is the key to victory for a rogue, regardless of who you're fighting.
