I tried looking for this information without any luck. Once you hit 70, and you tame a lvl 70 pet, does your pet still gain talent points?

Thanks!

Your pet receives a set amount of points depending on it's level and the loyalty it has toward you. If you tame a level 70 pet, you'll notice it may have negative points, such as -175 points. This is because the loyalty hasn't been built yet. As you increase the loyalty, you will notice they will receive more points. Once they hit max (lvl 6 loyalty - Best Friend), then your pet will have the max amount of points for it's level (as if you leveled it from lvl 1 to 70).

Wait for the pet to hit it's max loyalty, and train it.

The actual formula is (Pet Level) * (Loyalty Level - 1). So a max loyalty pet will have 5 training points per level... similar to your max weapon skills.

Now do you have to kill some mobs befor you get the points?

Sort of. The Pet stats at Loyalty Level 0. Fighting mobs with is while it is well fed seems to raise its Loyalty Level faster than sitting in Org with the Pet well fed. And as its Loyalty Level increases so do the training points available.
