I'll admit, I might not be the best person to be thinking about this. I probably think a lot more than healthy, and my mage is only level 48 because I got tired of being ganked and just rolled a different toon.
I really should get back to him...

Anyway..! I'm looking up on the mage forum because it's late, I'm bored, have nothing to do and won't be tired for probably another 2+ hours.

I understand frost nova to blink is a fairly effective way of escaping, but a fifteen second cooldown kind've sucks in a BG or PvP, because it might not SEEM like a lot of time, but it can damn sure be enough to have you go "Aughlurbleburble."
I have a UD fire mage, and I can't help but laugh when I hear him die and post that in guild/general when I feel like it.

Back to the point, if you're going to frost nova someone, you have about eight seconds to just RUN. If you blink immediately, that's an extra 20 yards right there, but you have to wait and sometimes you NEED that freedom from stun, snares, etc.
So, from what I tended to do was frost nova, run, then when they've broken free I blink if they start getting too close for my liking.

Edited due to excessive conversation wandering.

Yeah, that makes sense in hindsight, but I think the panic is in a nova breaking too soon and someone hitting you with a concussive shot or something, and if you had just used that blink a little earlier you wouldn't be dwarf brunch. I tend to panic.

That makes no sense whatsoever. If you blink straight away, then in 15 seconds you can blink again, it greatly increases the chance blink will be off cd ready for you to use it again, if they are that persistent, and get more distance between you and your enemy.

To summarise: 2 blinks>1 blink

if you can, CoC / rank1 FB , FN and then blink :) at least if he breaks free he'll be slowed for 6 seconds, unless you can fire off a heavier spell.

Well a mage dies within 15 seconds and if you don't got blink you die every time.

Wait a tick- who says a mage dies in 15 seconds?

I think what troll was saying is if you FN/blink you have an extra 20 yards starting...then the time it takes for nova to break. If nova breaks premature or they trink/racial out of it and you are that close it's going to hurt. If you blink first you gain that distance regardless, and if you are running toss on a shield for crying out loud. Even a mid level mage can take 2k dmg in shields without some crazy combos going off.

How I run (and it's just my personal pref.) - FN/Blink Ice barrier then mana shield, straffing CoC, blink

Of course I have the gnomish racial of escape artist so...I have a bit of an edge on my human, dran, troll, undead, and belf counterparts.

Maybe invest (small investment) in a spider belt if snares are that big of a problem for you. Or roll a pally O.o

(I'm tired as well so if this post isn't as clear as it could be, soz to all)
