Prot Pally Blacksmith...Beginning To Think I'm An IdiotFollow

So...I've got a protection pally I made, and my trade skills are currently mining and blacksmithing. My blacksmithing is currently at 210 or so (I forget the exact number) and I'm looking at picking a specialization. The thought occurs to me, though, that I'm not going to get any use out of the end-game items (the level 70 BOPs) that a blacksmith can make.

2-handers are obviously of no use as a tank, so those are out. The one-handers aren't particularly good for a pally tank either (the one-hand sword is good for warrior tanks, but not so much for pally tanks, since it has no spell damage). The level 70 plate seems pretty decent, but I seem to recall reading a thread in the warrior forum where TheIsDeKwant implied that the bulwark of ancient kings (and blacksmithing in general) is fairly worthless for a protection pally.

So, I suppose what I'm asking is whether or not people think I'd be better off dropping blacksmithing in favor of another skill (I'm thinking enchanting) or do I just march on and hope to find some use for my blacksmithing skill?

I'd keep mining, both to sell ores, and to pass them off to my shaman alt (who is currently jewelcrafting, which I'm not overly happy with and thinking of switching to blacksmithing for the awesome level 70 axes), but like I said, I'm thinking of dropping blacksmithing, most likely in favor of enchanting. Is it worth the effort?

I think you answered your own question... drop jewelcrafting on the shaman and pick up blacksmithing and then pick up jewelcrafting on your pally. Enchants are great and all, but if you are an experienced player I am sure you have someone who can enchant for you. The only thing nice for an Enchanter is that you can make uber gold by just selling your reagents. However, I kind of agree that for a Paladin Tank there is not much interesting in terms of armor or weapon.

What is your current level... there are some nice weapons for you while leveling and the nice thing is that you do not have to be shopping the AH non stop for better equipment as you will be able to create most of the items you will need while leveling.

I dunno im a prot pally and i have my skill at 374... and for a prot pally its nice to have all those armors available.. You can make khorium set for plus spell damage. You can make your epic chestpiece which although its more suited to warriors still is the best chestpiece available so far. And also with rep in aldor or scryer you can make either awesome FR gear or AR gear. If your looking to be decked out in your craftable items, its not gonna happen. But i am happy with being an armorsmith.

think long term, and think future.

BS can craft a decent BoE tank set and get the BS bonus. BS can also craft runes and stones as needed. but i'm in BS for the future recipes that will ultimately be BoP. Blizz likes to throw in new content every ~3mo.

It's an L, not an I. And just Thels will do :P

But yeah, BS seems pretty useless as the only useful tanking items are BoE, and you can thus let someone else make them. The only useful healing items are BoE as well, to make things worse. As if Blizzard never wanted pallies to use BS. I wore a lot of my own crafted gear up to my late 40s, but after that, it went crap.

Then again, I spent way too much gold in it to dump it now. And who knows, maybe Blizzard will reconsider and make some BoP tanking items. I'm an armorsmith, cuz I like the 'protection'ish feel of that. But it all blows :(.

If you want to make tanking gear, roll Engineering. Those goggles are really nice, and 90 stamina from trinkets alone ain't bad.

lol...sorry. It's a lot easier to say with an L :P

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to end up re-rolling (on my current server apparently you have to be a drama queen to be level 70...though it's kind of funny watching raiding guilds blow up every week or so) and I'm definitely going to do something other than blacksmithing.

I'm thinking enchanting or jewelcrafting, but I hate how jewelcrafting seems to require so much of the "special" metals to level (gold and truesilver are my current sticking points...not so much the gold anymore, but truesilver has me stuck at the moment.)

Anyway, thanks for the advice.
