Hi i currently have a lv 65 undead mage in a guild raiding kara at the moment.
Once i hit 70 i'm hoping to join the raids alot so a PvE mage.
At the moment i'm frost/arcane with talents in frost to help AoE so my damage is a bit poor. What would be a good spec to choose for raiding, if someone could link an example it would be helpful. (Was thinking arcane/frost or something, maybe deep fire).
The other is which shat city faction to choose? My proff is skinning and leatherworking (bad choice i know but have it high level) if that would be a factor.

For a raiding - only spec, I'd go 10/48/3. That's the best raiding DPS spec currently available. If you want to do PvP as well, I went 34/27/0 which isn't bad for PvP and only marginally worse than 10/48/3 (as I only really raid 1 or 2 days a week).
Faction? I picked scryer. I don't know what they have for skinning & leatherworking, so you should research that. Sorry I can't help you there.

For frost raiding, two decent specs are 40/0/21 (for ice block, arcane power, presence of mind), and if they change artic winds a 10/0/48 ((you have 3 points left over to put into something you want)) will be a viable frost dps build. Shatter is crap in raids because you can't freeze down bosses (forget about people that keep damage meters going on trash mobs, anyone can kill them, you care about downing the big guys)so throw the 5 points you would put into that into artic winds if they change that ability.
For starting out, I've heard that 40/21/0 helps makeup for lack of epic gear. But yeah, 10/48/3 seems to be the "king of the hill" in terms of raid dps at the moment.
As for Aldor vs. Scryers, I personally chose Aldor but I'm kinda wishing I chose Scryers because they have a really nice caster ring at Exalted. Their shoulder inscription also gives a bit more crit which is nice for PvP. IIRC, they also have a decent trinket too.
Aldor has a bit more spell damage on their shoulder inscription and has a nice 2H Staff, Auchenai Staff, but it's nothing too special (i.e. you can find lots of staves equal to or better than it).

Put the 3 points in arcane impact into Mind Mastery or Arcane Meditation.
