I saw the few that were gone over in the FAQ, but are there any dedicated talent threads for Paladins on here? I'm mostly asking because I just heard that Improved Devotion Aura is apparently a horrible talent (and I always thought it was a very nice one for my Tank Paladin) so I was wondering is all.

I don't really plan on using anybody elses talent build, I want to make my own, but apparently there are some talents in these trees that are very bad or very good and I don't realize what they all are :P

[edit] Also, just a curiosity question. Divine Strength or Redoubt, which should be first? I was thinking Redoubt since it's a flat %, while Divine Strength is based on your base strength (which is fairly low at level 10).

Dev aura is worth jack. go redoubt first, don't bother with Divine strength, rather put them in Divine intellect, cuz you produce threat through you seals and judgements and those seal and judgement take, that right!! Mana!!

Strength is what you need to block though isn't it? I could always just take both :P

Actually, doesn't strength just increase the amount of damage you block per block and not the number of times you block(percent-wise)?

Heck if I know, lol. I just see under my strength stat "Increases Block by 1"

I have no idea if that means chance to block or damage blocked honestly.

strength does increase block rating but each block rating only decreases the amount damage taken for each block so far I couldnt find anything on how much damage 1 block mitigates per succesful block, it does not increase the chance to block. I would still take Divine Intellect but Divine Strength is still Viable I guess.

Block Rating: Chance to block.

Base value is 5%
Holy shield raises this by 30%
Redoubt raises this by 30%
At level 70, every 7.9 Block Rating raises this by 1%
At level 70, every 60 Defense Rating raises this (as well as other stats) by 1%

Block Value: Amount of damage blocked.

Every 20 Strength raises your block value by 1

If your base strength is 200, and you put 5 points into Divine Strength, then your block value will increase by 1.

The good thing about blocking is not that you can subtract the block value. That's just a nice extra. The good thing is that a block cannot be a crushing blow and that a block returns damage from Holy Shield and BoSanctuary.

I was thinking about writing a talent description list, but I'm gonna wait for the PTR to go live first.

I thought it was something like that, but didn't know the numbers.

The question I want to know is how much damage does 1 Block Rating Mitigate?

It mitigates exactly that, 1.

The formula to calculate blocked damage is:
Blocked Damage = [(Shield Block Value) + ((Strength / 20) - 1)].

So with a Strength of 20, you will block the exact amount your shield says you will block.

Taking the example of 200 Strength and Gizlock's Hypertech Buckler, without Divine Strength:
[(32) + ((200 / 20) - 1)] = X
[(32) + (10 - 1)] = X
[(32) + (9)] = X
X = 41 will be blocked when a successful block occurs.

Now with 200 Strength and Gizlock's Hypertech Buckler, with Divine Strength (Thus 220 Strength):
[(32) + ((220 / 20) - 1)] = X
[(32) + (11 - 1)] = X
[(32) + (10)] = X
X = 42 will be blocked when a successful block occurs.

For a 5 points talent, that sucks. At least, if you're planning on getting more block out of it. Imagine that with a Strength stat twice as big, Div Strength will still only give 2 more block value. The only reason why you'd take Div Strength is for the extra DPS which, frankly, cannot be fueled if you run out of mana too fast.

Thus, general consensus is that Divine Intellect is the better choice. Taking both is possible, but as I said, it's not much for 5 points.

Yea, it's things like this that make me ask about talents for classes i've never played. Divine Strength and Improved Devotion Aura are both talents I would have thought were needed for Tankadins. Thanks for the info :)
