I've got TBC coming in the mail and I currently have a level 30 Mage on just plain old WoW. My question is will this char be able to hit level 70, or will I have to start a new char when I install TBC?

You will be able to level any of your existing characters to 70 once you install and activate TBC on the account the character belongs to.

Ah thank goodness, I was pretty upset when I read that I couldn't.

If you couldn't level a pre-TBC character past level 60...

That would mean that everyone who had a level 60 character would have to re-level all the way from 1 to 70. Now that wouldn't make sense, would it?

"Logic crits you for 999999999" :P

Well that's exactly why I wanted to verify the statement.

And I pointed out that one should be able to use common sense to deduce the answer without having to wonder :P

Often times people will do things contrary to common sense. The gaming industry is an environment rich with examples of this. Common sense would dictate that Sony should have finished development of the Playstation 2 before releasing it to the world. Instead they irrationally released a product that barely functioned. Premature release of a product happens all the time. Now, if I was expecting the release of the PS2, "common sense" would tell me Sony has finished the development and that I'll be able to play dvds on my system without it wiping my memory card. So I purchase my PS2 on the release date, play Oni for a few hours and save my progress. I feel like watching a dvd so I pop one in. After the movie I want to play Oni some more, but what's this? The rumor that I heard about memory cards wiping during dvd playback is TRUE! 3 hours of gameplay lost!

It is in no way illogical to make sure of the validity of a statement. That's all I was doing.

I'm bored at work so I think I'm going to argue just for argument's sake here... hehe, so don't take it personally :D

There's a fundamental difference between your question about TBC and the Sony example you used as a supporting argument.

Your question about TBC is in regards to its intended design; i.e. "Is TBC designed such that pre-TBC characters will not be able to hit level 70?"

Whereas your Sony example is a case where the product was not behaving according to design. i.e. a bug.

If your question was, "Is there a bug in TBC that prevents pre-TBC characters from hitting level 70" then your supporting argument would be valid.
