Frost - any better?Follow

#1 May 02 2007 at 7:23 AM Rating: Decent
I have gotten my mage to 46, and i have been Frost since before level 20. My wife has been playing a warrior and boy does she get miffed when she watches me AOE down 8 mobs at a clip, or kite her around in a duel. Me? I'm loving it! Smiley: grin

Anyways, here's my question...

Frost is a major Kick butt spec, so why would I want to go Fire or Arcane?
I have looked at these specs and I'm just not seeing it. Yes, I know Fire has some big time damage crits, against solo targets.

Fill me in please? I'm hoping to tap some of the Hard-core mages out there for guidance. Smiley: schooled

Thanks in advance!

You can kite warriors with any spec, frost just makes it alot easier.
I was frost since level....well since i started, and I recently changed to arcane/fire and deepfire/arcane to see the other side of the fence. My DPS and Damage has improved a lot, and the only thing I miss is iceblock for those "oshet" moments.

You can still AOE grind while being fire, if you know how to play your class, you will not have problems doing so.

Arcane/fire has some sick burst you can do, both single and multi target. Full fire has some good AoE burst you can do as well...though it's dangerous.

But for multi-target solo killing, I'll always say frost.

only by virtue of constantly spamming chill effects do frost mages hold more kite power than fire. the single talent of improved blizzard is what distinguishes frost mages from fire (in a purely non-damage sense).

with the recent rape of frost, the control aspects are losing ground to the neanderthallian brute-force tactics of fire. this is not to say that fire builds (most especially specific elemental builds) are incapable of AoE tactics in their own right!

but for now, no other build of mage can manage to make kiting look so easy.

Me burn you! You die!

Lol... made me laugh. It is true that fire is much more of a 'sledge hammer' approach than a 'hammer'. It gets a little messy sometimes. I do miss all of the control I had as a frost mage, but I love the damage I have now.

i was frost till 48 and it was really cool with ice barrier when i aoeed many targets..then i turned to fire and i loved critting for some 2-3k at a time with almost no downtime between mobs(master of elements)..at 70 i turned to Arcane/Fire....ap-pom.....there's nothing I can say about it....when it comes to pvp....one single pyro is enough to bring a rogue/druid/warr/shamy to his knees hith a 5,5k crit!

I am working on a mage now, only lvl 22, first one ever for me. I am used to being hunters and rogues. so far I have tried to focus on frost but I find a lot of gear that buffs fire. This idea is probably gonna get laughed at some kinda bad but oh well. What abotu a light frost/heavy fire build? What I mean is enough in frost that nova will hold them all in the same place for a few secs while you burn them to death. Yes the fire will break the ice but by then its to late, they were held long enough to be completly useless.

I am learning htis class so please instead of calling me a moron, explain why I am a moron...lol

thanks

If you want something like this, id suggest taking an elemental build, going JUST enough frost for Imp FN wouldnt really be worth it, but a waste of points.

At the lower levels, I suggest going all fire or all frost, but not dabbling in both. Elementalist builds don't really shine till much later.
