Hey there..
I decided to start up a pally to see how they are. Im still a low lvl, but I like to see how my talents will progress as i lvl, and what end talent build I will have. I like the ret tree, but I know it will be alittle easier to lvl as prot (from what I am told from a pally in my guild). So i am just wondering about this build. I took what I thought were good talents from the ret and prot trees.

let me know if you think it would be a good build, or if anything can be improved upon.

Thanks

You have alot of wasted and misplaced points. Good effort though.

If you're going with a tanking build you don't really need SoC or 2H specialization as you'll be using a 1H weapon. And you might want benediction over might and pick up deflection if at all possible. Drop imp devotion aura too

What the heck go with this build:

I think it would make a good tanking build. (I don't really know for sure, I'm ret spec)

Edit: changed build. didn't mean to put improved devotion in there.

If you onley want to lvl fast which you usually want when you've played another character. I would spec ret until lvl 40 where you can start to AoE grind.

If you want a prot build you should really pick up Holy shield and avenger shield to since you probably will tank in instances. Imp. Dev aura doesn't fill any markeble difference, there's a thread here which show you the mats. At lvl 70 it offers a tank with 12k armor only 1.59% higher mitigation, imo it's not worth 5 talentpoints.

If you spec protection you will probably AoE grind and tank in instances, so you should max your mitigation. http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/paladin/talents.html?500000000000000000000502513052300152015015000505000000000000000 there's the finished build I would use if I speced protection. You may take benediciton if you want but imo it's not worth it, if you're tanking you'll get healed and you will not be low on mana. When you AoE grind you don't seal/judge that much. I put 5 points in Devine strenght for higher block rate, since your damage come from blocks at higher lvl.

Here's a vid off a lvl 63 Paladin AoE grinding, he explain good and shows you how it shuold be done imo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RIx7vDEGus

I'm not an expert, especially not on prot since I've only played holy.

Edit: excuse my spelling.

Chood, in that build you offered up, what did you not pick up Seal of Command in Retr? I find it quite useful at the moment, and certainly much more damaging than Seal of Righteousness.

Often when you're tanking, you're using Seal of Righteousness to inflict more Holy Damage (which is your aggro-generating damage, combined with Righteous Fury.) If you're AoE grinding you're going to be using a combination of the Seal and Judgement of Light and Wisdom (sometimes you're using both Seal and Judge of the same one, just depends on your needs at the moment.) The only time SoCo would really come in handy would be when you're going one on one with a mob, and this typically takes forever to do as a Prot pally ANYways, so you might as well avoid this situation.

I see, I see...*rubs beard*

I tend to use Command a lot because I usually on take on one or two enemies at a time. if I pull more somehow (stupidity or dumb luck) I'll switch to my 1 hander and grind it out.

As a noob, I didn't know that Righteousness helped generate MORE aggro retention--my UI mods tell me Command gets higher DPS and for the e-peen and fast killing/grinding that works for me. I'll definitely start using it with that in mind.
