Okay i'm a main hunter, but im picking up warlock (which is level 38 lawl) but im finding out that having the VW keep hate is the biggest pain in the *** ever. So I use bandages and end up fearing alot (which I dont want to because it ends up going into other mobs which end up attacking me which end up making me fear again; so on, wewt) Anyway, I'm destruction spec'd, maybe thats why it doesnt hold hate, but... destruction with shadowburn and the immolate instant thing (yeah that was newb) is so sexy and I drop everyone in every BG simple as cake (oh yeah and while grinding). Okay so my question is.... should I be respeccing to Demo once its time for the Felguard, because it will be too hard solo without one? Or is destruction just complete madness that I should stick with it?

Oh might I add; I put up DOTs including Immo, then Drain.. and hate is sometimes on me before I start to drain.

You cannot be that sexy and expect not to draw attention.

This should be the very least of your worries. Felguard is in no way required or even necessary for easy solo'ing. At 62 right now I can solo elite quests with no problems as aff spec, and regular mobs are just a joke. Destro's really no different, you just need to time your nukes efficiently. I played around with it from 40-60 or so and really enjoyed it. Only reason I went back to aff was I personally found it a little better for pvp and it made solo'ing elites easier. But if you're liking destro, then stick to it!

as a destruction lock you are going to have at least two problems..

1. drawing aggro away from your VW- destruction = burst damage (as you already know) the VW can't keep up with this. Just like if you were in an instance and drawing all the aggro from the tanks target. Lay off the heavy hitters because and let me stress this, the VW will NEVER keep aggro while your blasting the mob. EVER.

2. as a destro lock your probably drinking mana drinks every other fight. I was full destro until about level 30. I just couldn't stand stopping every other fight. Theres a good bit of info in the warlock guide right at the top of this category. I urge you to read the whole thing, and you'll see different builds and ways to go about daily questing, grinding, instances. I know it helped me tons leveling my first toon. Goodluck

ps- its also helpful to throw your first two dots on (cursre of agony, corruption) then wait till the VW uses the aggro skill again before you cast immolate. If you start like that the mob will almost always stay on VW. Your casting order should be like this (this is not for a destro, which I know you are) COA,Cor, wait, immo, life tap, drain life. This keeps both your mana and life near max. Which allows you to go through mobs much faster and with next to zero downtime. Hope this helps.

Using a VW with destruction spec is not too useful IMO. I used imp, got myself at max range, set him to attack, Started casting the biggest thing I could (Soul Fire or SB), before your SB or SF gets there start casting Immolate, then (depending on the mobs HP and if you crit or not) another SB should get most the way cast before it gets to you. If it isnt dead yet pop Conflag...still not dead Shadowburn....still not dead then you're probably fighting the wrong things for your level/gear or you might wanna switch spec. Just my thoughts and how it went for me in destruction spec.

if you show a little patience, the void can keep aggro the whole time. throw CoA to pull it, and at the same time sic your void on it. he'll taunt the second he gets in range, so he's got aggro now. wait a few seconds and let him taunt again. then after that, the next time he casts the taunt, throw Corruption, then Immolate. Even if Immolate crits, you will still be fine. then, you pick your poison to burn the mob down. I prefer SB->Conflagrate->Shadowburn, as 9/10 times one of those will crit if the immolate didn't, and it's easily 1500 damage unbuffed (those three for me at 61 hit for 750->700ish->700) it's mana intensive, but when you get low on mana, CoS, Corr, Life Tap, Drain Life will down things quickly too. If you spec heavy destruction and pick up things like Nightfall, Siphon Life, Shadow Embrace (only if you have Improved Drain life), and Improved Life Tap from the affliction Tree, you'll be able to keep grinding with the LT/DL combo and still dish out the pain.

after typing all of that, i remembered: the most important thing to look out for is if a "Resist" pops up over the head of the mob when you didn't cast anything. It usually will mean that your voidy's taunt was resisted, and blah blah blah just get KLH Threat Meter. You won't have to worry about unexpected aggro then.

Throw 8 points in Demonology. 5 for 15% Stam. boost, and the other 3 for Improved VW. Works perfectly.

Ahh good point, forgot about this.

Make the VW attack first and wait for him to cast torment 2 times before starting to deal damage that's what I do.

The problem with "sexy" demolition spells is that they will almost always pull aggro. Not just from your VW. From your main tank. Too much damage is just as bad as not enough. Either can get you making that long black&white trudge from the graveyard. If you're in an instance, it can also make others do the long walk as well.

The trick is to build damage gradually. On normal fights, make sure your VW grabs aggro, and then cast your dots in order of the amount of damage they deal - lowest first. If you want to use immolate, cast it as your last dot, and f'god'sake, let your VW get an extra taunt in before you do. Don't cast searing pain at all, except as a closer. Drain life instead of using Shadowbolt. About the same amount of damage, but with lots less aggro - with the benefit of not waiting for the cast time delay.

The choice is clear - you can be dead sexy or a living 'lock.

Most of the locks in know that spec destruction use their vw or imp for beasts and whatnot, but almost always use succubus for humanoids. The only thing is you can't use dots because they will break the suduce.
Just get to max range, nuke the crap out of em, if they get to close suduce em and back up. you still go through mana alot quicker than other builds, but you won't have to worry about balancing your agro and you shouldn't be getting hit as often.
