Epoch Hunter/Paladin Tank Even Possible?Follow

So as long as we're talking about Pallies tanking...

I'm to the point now where I can start running the CoT instances. The problem is I'm tank specced. And from what I've heard there is NO WAY that a paladin can tank Epoch Hunter and that it's an automatic wipe.

Is there a way to do it? Do you just try to get a good lvl 70 mage to spell steal the dispell aura? Some other trick I don't know about? Or do I accept the fact that as a tank spec paladin the only way I'm getting into this instance is through the good graces of my guildies knowing that I'm not going to really have anything to offer the group but taking pity on my anyway?

Thanks!

What does Epoch hunter do that causes a problem? I'm exalted with CoT and I've never died on him.

Basically he's got that Dispel Magic aura thing that eats your buffs - including Righteous Fury, seals, blessings etc, making it next to impossible to hold aggro as a tank.

This is what I'm reading on boards and hearing in game. Perhaps you had a lvl 70 mage with you to spell steal? I've heard that works.

So lemme get this straight - you've tanked him as a paladin and had no problems, never even noticed?

Interesting! Maybe I'll get my guild to let me guinea pig it. Thanks!

I also have not noticed much on that boss fight. The one thing i have been told to do is to walk him around a little bit... it seems to work because i have not yet once died on him in 5 runs.

If you walk him around, how do you deal with the knockback then?

It's apparent that we're not talking about the same mob. I'm not sure which one you're thinking of.

edited for linkage

The only thing you can do is explain what's up to your party and tell them
to give you more time to build up threat. Try to use your wings, toss
your shield and judge Sor asap at the start. your gonna have to sacrifice some
+sta and def for +int. youll need a mana pool to spam Consencrate.
Toss up a ret aura also. You wont have threat boost from holy, but its still damage causing threat.

Oh, the last boss of durnholde. Ya thats what I was talking about.

I go balls out on him right away to ensure I have enough aggro to last the fight. (ie avenging wrath pop right away and spam absolutely all my holy spells)

Ah ok newfangle - I was just confused that you hadn't noticed his attacks.

Thanks to you and devildawgs - I'll give the up front aggro a shot. I have a guild run scheduled, we'll see how it goes.

Thanks again!

Yea just go balls out at first and you should have no problem at all. Matter of fact, the only mobs I've had much of a problem tanking at all are those damn Voidwalkers in Tempest Keep ... The ones that build up magical resistances and use it against you? Yea, those suck ...

Wasn't the Epoch Hunter still tauntable? If so, that's not really a problem if the others know how to kite for a few seconds.

I don't really remember. I only switched to prot at 70, and then only have been there once. Since it was such a noob instance, I tanked the place in my DPS gear. I have no idea what the rest was doing, as I somehow topped the DPS meters.

Take a mage, a shaman, or a priest. His buff is dispellable...the one that eats your buffs.

Easy for a mage to steal.

I can usually keep the group from losing more than one buff for the whole fight.

Sorry to necro post this but I thought I'd update in case anyone was wondering.

Tried it the weekend before last at lvl 67 - that was a little on the low side. Can't remember the exact group make-up but I know we had a mage in there but I pretty much died too fast for her to even notice the aura to steal. Part of the problem was that we were all in pretty bad shape after the dragonkin fights we went into Epoch at a disadvantage.

Tried it again last weekend at 69 and it was cake. No wipes at all. Group was: Me, druid (Balance), Priest, Rogue and Hunter. Having the druid along to sleep at least one of the defilers helped quite a bit. We were in much better shape (partly due to my lvl increase and partly due to that) going into Epoch.

He did steal all my buffs but my aura. I re-applied RF a couple of times but only the 2 times I lost aggro. I had it hotkeyed next to taunt and taunted, re-buff, judgement and he seemed to stay put for a bit. We also had a heck of a lot of DPS in the Boomkin, rogue and hunter that we burned him down pretty fast as well.

So, pallies can tank him even without someone to steal the aura. Saying they can't is lies.
