Time for me to get some more AdviceFollow

#1 Apr 29 2007 at 6:42 AM Rating: Decent
Heya Everyone,

So, I've done some major questing and have gotten to 51. I have begun looking at the forum posts to see what I should maybe start focusing on getting (such as eq, talent spec, etc) and am honestly getting pretty lost with some of the posts. So, with that in mind, could you higher (60-70 lvl) pros out there give me some pointers or links to decent posts?

With this advice I would like to point out that I know for 100% certainty that I will always have at least 20 points in MM (I LOVE Mortal Shots with Aimed Shot and Lethal Shot). I am more then willing to respec if any research that is shown to me can help me understand not only that I should change but WHY I should change from what I currently have.

In regards to equipment, I'm currently in a guild that is, for the exception of all but one, lower level then me. As such, I'm not really keen on doing some of the instances for gear just yet do to my experiences with pick up instance parties. (Very bad luck in that deptartment for me).

Well, that should about do it. Feel free to flame but I won't pay attention as I'm looking for *constructive* criticism here.

As always a pleasure

Well, what do you plan on doing? We need more details, you need to help us help you. Do you plan on PvP, Soloing to 70, grouping, etc?

As for gear, I wouldn't worry too much, since you'll be replacing EVERYTHING with outlands gear once you get to 58. But as for stats, try to get pieces with +Attack Power, +Hit, +Crit Chance, +Agility, +Intellect, and +Stamina [not in that order], and you should do fine.

Hunter gear:
of the hunt# (very rare, but also the best you can get)
of the falcon (still rare and for PvE very good)
of the bandit#
of the monkey
of agility
of power
of the elder#*
of intellect*
of the eagle*

*=only if you are lacking Intellect, running out of mana way to fast.
#=Outlands

this is the most basic you can get.
look at waht kind of stats things have, and judge for yourself how important those stats are for you at that moment.

Outlands quest gear pwns all that type of gear =P

According to my math, excepting aimed shot, you get roughly the same DPS out of Expose Weakness (which in the next patch will be 100% chance at rank 3, not 30%). Aimed shot simply does enough damage to make the 30% bonus worth it =P. But it also affects a lot of other stuff. So IF you go survival, and have a choice of spending 5 points in mortal shots or 3 points in EW, I'd put 3 in EW.

Ofc, you can still get both, and then you'll be getting mad crits.

At 51, you owe it to yourself to do at least one instance run. Do all of the soloable quests leading up to your Hunter class quest in Sunken Temple. Then find a PUG going there for the same reason. Pick one of the Trinkets and forget about the weapon.

A run or six through AV will get you an excellent Crossbow. Pick up the quest at the physical entrance for your faction, don't just take the free ride from the BG emissaries.

After those two, you'll just level and rely on drops, the AH, or Leatherworking (either your own work or commissioned work) for gear upgrades until you reach 58th and can walk through the Dark Portal. If you like, you can be summoned there a few levels earlier. Hunters do well in Outlands.

i suggest going to Outlands at 56.
and picking up 1-2 greens (boots and cloak are last to be replaced by quests i think) from AH for lvl 57.
you can grind out those 2 levels very very fast killing the birds next to honor's hold, as those are all lvl 58-59.
and killing boars around them gives some good leather if you are a skinner.

58-60 is done in a few hours, and after that, ramparts quest gives good gloves, the first boss drops awesome leggings, and the 2nd drops great gloves and a good necklace.
from 61-63 Blood Furnace last boss drops a good pair of leather shoulders, and a good 2h axe.
all those will improve your gear fast ^^

Heya All

Sorry for the long wait for my reply.

My Armory

For the most part, I PvE. Been thinking of getting into PvP but I'm also thinking I might be a bit late to start with this character.

Now, please please don't laugh at my bow. I'm thinking I made a HUGE mistake buying that from the AH for 100G but I REALLY wanted my first purple item.

Also, this is my first and highest level character. I do have a lower level character that I do better at farming with, but thats a secret that I'm not gonna share :-D.

I did see that post about the upcoming patch change to the Survival Talent. I have been looking at the talent tree wondering if I could go a different route and Survival does seem to offer a lot that would mesh with how I see a Hunter, but so does MM. Blah...I will probably never make up my mind which is why I want cold hard numbers. I'm all about being the most "effecient" hunter as I cannot guarantee that I would be a "good" or "great" hunter.

My plans are pretty much open for this character. I'm willing to try anything at least once. Thank you for all the advice so far. Looking forward to seeing what you advise next now that you will have some decent look at my character (if armory updates its info before you look).

Thanx again,
D

That's a good bow but it's fast and will cost you money. Honestly it's one I regreted buying along with the Calibrated Boomstick. Anyway, Maraudon holds good items for a hunter including shoulders and legs, not sure if you're high enough yet. Also, since you're 51, go to Tarren Mill, go NORTH, and get the quests from the Alterac Valley Battleground, there is a quest that says to kill the Allies General or w/e (which is winning a game) You do that and you can get a great polearm which I suggest you use. It will last you until outlands. Also, time to you to quest @ hinterlands. Quests there hold a good trinket and neck piece. Also, MM is too sexy for me to ever give up. I can't live without Scatter,Aimed, and Silence shot. This is also how you might want to spec; http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=c

Bumping because I think I was forgotten *starts to whine and cry* (hehehe)

Well...dinged 55 last night. Trying to push to 58 to hit Outlands like someone suggested. Got my Beaststalker Gloves also last night. Wondering though, good choice or bad choice for gear right now? Bought cause it looked good and was only 20G when my Auctioneer said it was worth 80-ish gold. Anyways, let me know what you think now that I did post some more info. (don't forget my post 2 posts up :-D)

Thanx again,
D

Gloves shouldnt cost you 20, but anyways

Don't even bother with buying anything until you get to the outlands, it will be replaced within your first few levels worth in quests out there.
